Back in 07 at conference competition in HS, we got a notice about our Captain's over-the-top facials..and it was that standard a-e-i-o-u nonsense..I'm in CT though so that might be it :D

Personally, facials always made me feel really fake and over-the-top (but not in a good way)..a big smile, mouthing the words at a really good part and just looking like the routine is fun look best IMO. Please no bobble heads, by nature my body spasms uncontrollably sometimes and bobble heads just remind me of it

ok... now that I'm on the right thread

Yeah, I can see where it might be cuter on the little ones than the older ones. Plus, for the younger ones, it kinda jazzes up the routine a little and maybe helps them break through the nerves. I think a lot of my daughter's faces now that's she's older are out of pure joy - love for stunts or pyramids that hit or a tumbling pass that she's worked so hard to get. It's great to see her enjoying herself and being part of the team so much that it explodes on her face :). Love that so much.

I think there are plenty of facials that are just so over the top but I still enjoy some. I may be biased but it's just a part of who my daughter is as a cheerleader. She LOVES to perform and she just gets so into it. It also depends on when the camera guy snaps the picture. You have to remember that some pictures we see of facials are not truly how we viewed them because the facial happens so quickly. I have seen picture of my daughter and I have thought, gosh that is horrible I don't remember you making that face and my eyes were on her the entire time. Bottom line is my daughter is not only a cheerleader she is a performer :)

Our coaches really don't go for facials. They just want genuine smiles and excitement and that works pretty well. It produces things like my avatar...I think she does better with her expressions when she's not actually trying to make them. My son (thankfully) just has a great time and smiles....no facials for him (thankfully :)

I remember the first competition I went to watch a friend's child ( before we were addicted) and the bobble heads and kisses were the thing to do. Last year it seemed like everyone was whipping their head around. I thought some would need a neck brace for sure.
