First Year Of Cheer

In Kentucky many of the private/Catholic schools offer cheer beginning in 3rd grade....but for sure they offer it in 5th grade. These cheer teams cheer for the school football and basketball teams and they do small local competitions. I coached a 5th/6th grade team my Junior and Senior years of high school and when I went to college I 'moved up' to coach the 7th/8th grade team.

I think one of the main factors would be your size in comparison t0 the rest of your team more than your size itself. Also, it might be different for school cheer but my gym takes into account flexibility when choosing flyers, as well as those who can stay tight.
