On my junior team, my flyer is basically my little sister. She's my best friend, even if we're four years apart. (10 & 14) And if we don't hit something perfectly, she starts to cry. I hate watching her cry, because I love her and I don't wanna see her upset. I feel like she doesn't believe in herself and I hate it. How can I get her to cheer up and understand that not everything will always be perfect? We do great at competitions, she just gets really upset at practice. Thanks.

Maybe her mom is pressuring her too much. Have you noticed if her mom is putting a lot of pressure on her? I've noticed that the kids who cry a lot have moms who push a lot. Before I get flayed and burned at the stake for saying this, I'll say in most cases. Some kids just get upset easily. If her mom is the one pressuring her, there may not be much you can do except to keep reassuring her.

Thank you all! I just don't like seeing her upset. I KNOW she's an amazing flyer and can hit everything, I just wish she could realize that, too.

No routine is ever perfect. Not even on stage. Everything can hit, everyone can be tight, but there will ALWAYS been 1 tiny flaw no matter what. My coach told us that before. There is NO such thing as a perfect routine. Tell her that, even if it doesn't hit perfectly, as long as EVERYONE in the group was doing their part and trying 150% then there isn't anything to worry about. There's ALWAYS room for improvement. :)(

There was a girl on our jr3 team last year.. she would cry EVERY practice. she just over exxagerated things. her mom didnt push her... she even said she could quit if she didn't believe in herself. the coach was just straightforward with her, and she eventually got over the crying stage.

In a stunt, try to take some of the blame.. "my grip was alittle wierd that time/"I think our timing was just off"... I had to start doing this with my flyer, and it helped ALOT!!! best of luck(:

That's actually a reallly goood idea! Sometimes we bases DO mess up and she takes it out on herself. Thanks again! <3

i had a flyer like this on my hs team a few years ago, we started to realize that she got so upset because she felt like if our group messed up it was all on her so taking some of the blame for mistakes helped a lot with her too :)

Totally agree! Flyers get the brunt of it when a stunt falls. Making sure she knows it's not just her fault; would be huge.
You're a good friend :)

My daughter is 8. If she cried about falling in practice at practice, she would get in trouble with our Coach. It might sound harsh, but there just isn't time for crying. You are only allowed to cry if you are seriously hurt. Hope things get better for her. She is lucky to have you.

I agree, just try to take the blame sometimes. My bases last year did that and you feel so much better knowing that it's not solely your fault.
