any advice for someone who has never been to this comp/detroit before based on past experiences? and also does anyone know if there is a starbucks nearby?

If I remember correctly, there is a starbucks in the venue but be prepared to stand in long lines! Also, they did confiscate my diet coke when I walked in so hide your food!

The closest Starbucks is at the Renaissance Center. Little over half a mile away. You can use the People Mover to get there and back.
