i know it's a big jump. my cp has finished day 3 of 6 of tryouts stunting level 3 and is struggling a bit. the bases she's been put with all used to be flyers and have never based at all, or not at level 3 before. so they're all learning. i'm not really 100% with the terminology, but she said that she fell on the full up squeezing as hard as she could, but her legs were really far apart a lot. all the other stunt groups had moved on to doing 3/4 up lib to heal stretch switch ups (fake tick tock?) or something and she didn't get to because she couldn't stick the full up. i might not be fully understanding the words here, but thought i'd try to get some tips for her if anyone has any! TIA!

From my experience this last year with my level 3 team, who were mostly unexperience or level 2 athletes, it is probably the lack of basing experience!

for full ups the bases have to keep the bases feet close together (i had one stunt group struggle with this all year). A lot of the turn is actually done by the main base, and having a front usually can help.

However if the girls do not have experience in basing in general then they really need to start at the bottom and perfect a half up.

I can definitely be difficult to be on a new basing group. However, I've said it to my girls and I'll say it again here, it is the FLYERS job to keep her feet together. Not the bases. Top girls need to squeeze their inner thighs together and make it happen. If they do not, there is literally nothing the bases can do to fix that.

Neither her nor I were blaming bases about the legs being apart. That's why I'm asking for suggestions. Maybe she's not squeezing the right muscles. I will let her know about the inner thighs. Thanks !

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that you were. I meant to quote CoachLilly83's post:

...this is one of my biggest pet peeves/misconceptions in cheer; but the bases are not responsible for that!

And THEN, mention for your cp to squeeze her inner thighs. That is what happens when you are on FB at work and trying to do too much at one time!! lol

It's true the bases are not responsible, however as soon as I told the bases to not let the flyer push you out (there is a limit to how much a flyer can squeeze), they were able to almost hit it.

I see it happen alot with our new girls, who sometimes get thrown into basing without being taught the basics (a whole other topic *banghead*)). The bases do not understand how far apart they need to be, especially when some flyers are smaller then others. Shoulder width is different for everyone, so maybe if the flyer IS allready squeezing they are just to far apart to begin with.

Again I wasn't trying to point blame, or say that is was all the bases fault, so much as give suggestions as to why the stunt was not hitting.
