I seen your post as I posted. Oopsfor tumbling $25/30 min with up to 3 per private.
stunting is $40/30 min with up to 3 per private, but that is for 2 coaches (main and side base).
old gym was $30/30 min individual private
No the way this gym is is STRANGE! The girls pay the gym tuition and I get paid per girl... They set the price (which is too high to get any new girls I think) and then they complain that I haven't grown the program. We've only been open (as a cheer team) since January but whenever we get someone interested they turn right around when they hear the tuition cost...
I do everything... Choreo, I make the bows, design the uniforms, do the music (some and we fundraise to pay for others), run practices, choose comps... (keep in mind I only get 74$ out of that $230 per girl)
We Practice Mon 4-6 Tumbling 6-7, Wednesday 4-7, and Thursday 4-7... How many hours are you guys at?
I run the cheer team as a 1099 "contractor" the girls pay the gym... But I do own all of the rights to the team. I have no idea why they wanted to do it this way.... I try to keep ALL other costs SUPER low because they are already paying an arm and a leg so no I don't charge for choreo and I researched uniform companies for roughly 9 months to find one that low with a good quality...
We are competing roughly 1-3 times a month between October and April but only one is traveling (all others are within a 2 hour drive of here).
Here is the fee breakdown:
$230- tuition: 1 hour of tumbling and 8 hours of practice
$45- each add. tumbling class (optional)
$110- Uniform
$55-shoes
$400- App. comp fees for the season (we fundraise for this)
(practice clothes they just had to provide me with the tanks, sports bras, and shorts plus $10, and everytime they need a new bow for performances I charge about $5)
$25- Custom cheer bags that I made for them
$6- Stunt strap (they bought these themselves)
$5- ankle weights (they bought these themselves)
$10- Comp Bow (which I also made)
$10- Money to buy a supply of athletic tape
$5- supply of hair ties (because they are always stealing mine)
My gym does $20 for 30 minutes and $40 for an hour.Sorry to change the subject a little bit, but I was wondering what your guys's opinions on the pricing of privates were. My gym charges $40 per half hour with whatever coach you choose. I've heard about other gyms in the area charging less than this for a full hour. Is more than a dollar per minute really reasonable for a tumbling private? I'm not at a big name gym nor are our coaches any better at their job than other coaches. I absolutely love my coach though and I don't really mind paying that much for a private with him but the expenses have definitely started to catch up on me.
Same here. You can do privates with a friend but it's not that common, though I see it a lot more around HS tryouts.I should have noted---all privates are individual; you can do them with more than one but the price is different...I think an 1 hour for 2 kids is $60...not sure beyond that. CP has only does individual privates.
Since you are a "contractor" instead of an employee, I'm going to ask you some questions. What is the average local income? Is this a large city or small town? What is the single/divorced parent rate in the area? Dual income rate? What are the owners operating costs monthly, including Uncle Sam's local, state, and federal taxes, the insurance, mortgage on building if they own, allocation for business maintenance if they own (building, parking lot, and landscaping), lease amount if they don't, employee costs, benefits if they provide any, etc.
All Star cheer is a luxury and a private activity, the most important question is can your local economy afford to pay what it costs to run the business? Also, your hours are 3 days a week from 4:00-7:00 PM, you have cut out the majority of your single parents, divorced and dual incomes, because most people have a 9-5ish work week. What time do your local schools get out each day? Does that cut out all other after school activities? Dinner is going to be at 3:00 or 8:00 PM based on those hours, 3 days a week. Do you allow your athletes to "bring a friend" every once in awhile to promote your business? Do you do local exhibitions so the public can see your team? In other words, what are YOU doing to increase YOUR business since you own the rights to YOUR team? Your bow, cheer bag, and uniform are very inexpensive. It's great to be kind and thoughtful to your parents and keep costs down, but it is also, disappointing to kids and parents when a business goes under due to poor management or burn out. Allow yourself, and the people you sublease from, a profit. Have you signed a contract? I know I have bombarded you with questions, but these are all questions you need to answer honestly. It is one thing to state the gym is charging too much, but it sounds as though you agreed to sublease at this rate.
Thank you :) At least I know I'm not the only one... I think I'm going to look into leaving the gym and joining another and just tell the girls that this is where I am going if they want to come...Wow! I feel ike you are telling my story. I went through this exact same scenario and it's such a tough spot to be in. I was torn between not doing it anymore because of how irrational the gym I was running my team out of was and watching my kids be devastated that their coach left them and staying and dealing with the bulls*** and constant nagging that the team wasn't growing. They were charging my mini level 1 $275 for an hour a week of tumbling and three hours a week of practice. Everything else was extra. I fought them down to $225 but really??? Hello! The program wasn't growing cause the gym owners were making it impossible. I was getting paid even less than you but,Like you, was doing it more for the love of my kids and the sport. Ultimately they caused it to totally fold on me because they were money hungry. So sorry you are in this position. I know how frustrating it is.

Those costs are standard. You're getting individualized coaching time that is very valuable. I believe ours is 35 for a half hour and 60 for an hour. Our Assistant coach charges $25 per hour and gives deals if you take more than 2 hours a week... She charges $15 for 1/2 hour. She's here right now and I read her your post... she says that this is WAY too much and you may want to look into privates at another gym...
