We've had A LOT of drama in our gym for about the last two year (on teams and between teams) and was wondering if anyone has advice on how to keep this season drama free.

Hello there!!

Honestly I find the best way to deal with drama within the gym is to

a. Lead by example. Do not under any circumstance participate in it with them. In person. In social media. Even behind closed doors. You have to remove yourself from it 100%

B. confront it as soon as you hear anything about it. My kids know that there will be no petty gossip or meanness tolerated. I immediately address the kids involved, hear both sides and then tell them to either work it out or squash it.

C. Have a zero tolerance policy. Just don't deal with it! If they know and believe that being like that could take away what they love, they tend to keep it under wraps.

D. Try and have bonding things where they have to spend time together. Get to know each other outside what they THINK they know about each other. Usually they're wrong!

E. lastly I try and keep an eye on their social media. If I see an issue arise I head it off at the pass and stop it before it gets out of hand. Certain little things ill ignore but if they start fighting online, I def jump in and end it. I feel like they need to know that we are one family and that behavior will NOT be tolerated.

Hope this helps!! My gym doesn't have zero drama (perfect world I wish) but we really have very little. The kids do an excellent job of keeping any personal opinions they may have, to themselves because they know if they get out of hand, they will go, and that person who managed to keep it in instead of spill it out, will get to stay!! :)

I know that drama at the gym can be awkward and stressful. I mean, usually it's the place we go to escape the drama at school. But the best way to handle it is to either ignore it or ask the people to deal with it elsewhere. If the drama gets really bad and you feel that it might tear your team apart, talk to your coach about it he/she will most likely talk to the girls about it themselves.

What kind drama are you talking about and who is involved, just the kids or coaches too?

Eta: some great ideas already posted.
