for me it is a great thing that my dad is my coach and the owner of our gym. I could never see myself being coached by anyone but my dad. Sure he yells at me more but it's only because he loves me. But what about you other coaches or owners kids? how do you feel about it?:D

I coached my daughters for five years. They both loved having me coach them and were a little sad last year when stopped coaching. However, from a parent's perspective, it is not easy coaching your own child. I can't tell you how many conversations we had with them over the years about "when in the gym, mommy is "coach" not "mommy". We've been at a new gym for over a year now and I can tell you that they both work MUCH harder for the non-mommy coaches.

I didn't have any issues coaching my daughter. I might've been harder on her because I, better than anyone, know her potential as well as when she's being lazy, etc.

The issues I did have were with parents and their gossip about WHY my daughter was doing what/where in a routine, saying it was only because she was my kid. My 1st year coaching all stars, the cheer director sat me down and asked why my daughter wasn't point flyer. I explained because I didn't want parents to think that I was playing favorites or being unfair because it was my kid. She looked me dead in the face and said, "Your daughter is the best flyer on your team. Her group has earned the right to be point and you need to move her there for the betterment of your team"

Since then, I never hesitated to put her when she belonged and not where I thought the parents wouldn't complain.

I love having my dad as my coach... I love having him with me in the back before we go on because he knows hoe to calm me down and he knows how to keep me going... he is the reason i love what i do.... he makes me work so hard and now i am not afraid to try new things... my dad is first my dad, then my coach, and will always be my best friend

I think it depends on the parent and the kid. I'd probably feel too pressured personally, but that's not the case for everyone obviously. It'd be weird to call my mom "coach".

I dont call my dad coach hahaha :D he is always my dad at cheer! and he knows that and so do all the girls :)

My mom was my coach for 3 years and I loved it! She was just the assistant coach but it was awesome. Having her coach definitely made her understand cheerleading a lot more and why my sister and I love it so much! And now shes my manager at work so I am just a lucky gal

My mom was my trainer while riding horses for several years, and it was a good and bad thing. Good because she knew exactly when I was being lazy, or when I was frustrated/confused/upset/etc, and how to work me through it. Bad because it made it much harder to listen. Also, sometimes, the riding ring came home, no matter how much we tried. It ended up feeling like a lot of pressure to perform well in the riding ring in order to have a peaceful day at home. Also, the expectations were much higher. I was never quite sure where her expectations were all the time, and whether it was the mom or trainer making them.
