My mom was my trainer while riding horses for several years, and it was a good and bad thing. Good because she knew exactly when I was being lazy, or when I was frustrated/confused/upset/etc, and how to work me through it. Bad because it made it much harder to listen. Also, sometimes, the riding ring came home, no matter how much we tried. It ended up feeling like a lot of pressure to perform well in the riding ring in order to have a peaceful day at home. Also, the expectations were much higher. I was never quite sure where her expectations were all the time, and whether it was the mom or trainer making them.
