well, i'm not a great poet, but i do love poetry. and it's not so much a base to a flyer, but just about basing in general.
I've never been the tiny one
but rather, that tall girl
and I remember my first practice
that then changed my whole world.
My amazing group, my lovely girls
it was our own sisterhood,
dedicated to working hard
through the hopeless and the good.
And though we'd fall, so many times
and we often filled with shame,
we knew inside we could try again
and never placed the blame.
Over and over our stunts improved-
we added that stretch tick tock
and I would always be there
when you felt you'd hit a block,
fearing you wouldn't hit it right
or it wouldn't be enough
then i'd be there for comfort
saying, “don't worry girl, we're tough.”
Then competitions came, those stressful times
of hoping we would succeed
and each time we hit, our hearts filled up;
we'd walk off the mat with glee.
And though you got the glory
with all those action pics
inside my heart was leaping too
because I helped you hit those tricks.
And yes it hurt, my arms would burn
after all those 8 count rounds
but I know that it was worth it
because you never hit the ground.
And when people asked about the marks
and the bruises on my face
I looked at them with a big fat smile
and said “well, I'm proud to be a base”
