All-Star Help! Wardrobe Malfunction At Comp!

Honestly at this point I would screw what the gym owners/coaches want with not wearing a bra because it shows and wear it anyway. Your daughter being comfortable should be a top priority. I would be completely mortified if that happened to me and I'm apart of the IBTC. I remember when I was a freshman through junior wearing a red body suit underneath my uniform because I was so self conscious about my body and I didn't want my stomach to show. The teen years are so critical with self image and no person should have to go through what your daughter did.

At this point, I would say f@&? the gym and get the child a nude bra as close to skin tone as you can. Let her wear it, if the gym complains, remind them that they will be responsible for contributing to child pornography in relation to the action shots.

This is serious and angers me tremendously.

Shimmy Shimmy Shimmy!

We've all been wondering how some of the uniforms in the thread were going to play out on the floor. This shows that uniforms with a bunch of cut outs can have some terrible consequences. @Mama Of 3 CP's , I am so sorry that your daughter and your family has to deal with this. Please tell me that the coach is NOT okay with what happened with the uniform. I think that part of it is Varsity's fault for not properly sizing, but if the design was bra-friendly, as least the pics wouldn't be nude.

I don't think anyone can say, "Well, it was just 1 girl who had a malfunction so the uniform is still okay." No! Uniforms should not be at risk for nudity. Girls wear briefs/spankies so that if the skirt falls off, they still have something. And girls wear bras so if the top comes up, they also still have something.

I am heartbroken for you and your daughter. I can't imagine. The teen years are hard enough. And I call BS on the manufacturer not being able to make an alternate length crop. If we can add/subtract inches to a full uniform why not a crop?

Varsity can do it if it is ordered prior to manufacturing... after the fact without them constructing an entirely new top I can see why they can't exactly just add an inch. Not defending them or saying this situation should not be corrected, it should, but with the logos, rhinestones, and cut outs an inch can make a big difference in aesthetic.

:(

Didn't someone mention there is glue that gymnasts use for their leotards to stay in place? Maybe a quick fix.

Sorry cp had this issue.

I'd wear a bra period. The Velcro suggestion makes me wonder if that would cause the bra to just go with the top which happened to a friends cp. luckily she was hidden behind a teammate when it happened so nothing was recorded that we are aware of.

@123jump4! I have seen coaches walking around in skirts that should probably use something like that. Surprised we don't hear about them having wardrobe malfunctions, with their fly away skirts, very often.

**i wonder if parent teams can wear crop tops?**

It's called butt glue in the gymnastics community but can be used on other body parts too... read about it here:

Butt Glue

ETA: Yes what they recommend in the link is called It Stays!

As a programme owner and coach I'd be doing 3 things immediately.

1. Calling Varsity and figuring out a solution with a new top ASAP.
2. Call the photography company and getting the photos removed immediately.
3. Call the other programme owner/coach and get their support in dissolving all problems with their athletes and the photos.

Then I would tell you for the next comp to put your child in a tight fitting sports bra of your choice, but in a close as possible colour to the uniform. I'm sorry but an athletes modesty and comfort takes priority over how the uniform looks on the mat.

But she stated they re-ordered and got a size small...so they should have been able to add the inch when they made that second top.

This is why uniforms should be bra friendly, and goes to show that the argument "well the girls on this team aren't really "gifted" so it's fine" is not a valid one. No matter the size of your chest you should be able to wear a bra with your uniform. This situation is heartbreaking and also frustrating because she shouldn't have had to go braless in the first place. I'd find a sports bra close to uniform color or her skin color and just wear it... Nobody will notice from far away and can the coaches really argue that she needs to go without after all this? I think not.

I missed that part - I thought the new top was ordered and not here yet; Then, yes, they should have been able to add something unless it was sublimated (Varsity will not add to sublimated tops), but sublimated tops usually aren't the ones with crazy cutouts not allowing a bra, so I don't think that's the problem here.

OMG....THIS HAPPENED THIS VERY WEEKEND!! I will not say who, and I will not say where...BUT many many people at a comp Saturday saw way more of a coach than they should have. And that is all I will say about that.

Varsity added to our sublimated tops, sleeves and top length.

Good to know. when they first came out they would not for some reason - maybe scaling the design to the specific top sizes? IDK. I thought it was silly so glad they can do it now.
