I wanted to know if doing High School cheer and All-star cheer would be "too much" cheer. I'm trying out for an all-star team Thursday and have my schools tryout in August. I most likely will make both teams because I have tumbling and I am a really strong/ good base

I've been doing high school and Allstars for the past 3 years while doing dual enrollment as well! It gets stressful and takes a toll on your body and grades but if you time manage well, and make sure you stay rested, it can be super fun(: just remember to let both coaches know your schedule! Goodluck(: I think you will enjoy doing both.

I did both for 6 years. It's a lot of you feel like all you do is cheer but it is so worth it. Both are completely different atmospheres and it's a good experience to do both. Keep yourself organized and don't over do it.

It's all about time management:
-Give both coaches your schedules ASAP to avoid conflicts, and be smart about handling things if there is ever a conflict.
-Take advantage of any spare time to do homework, whether it be on the bus to a game, in between classes, etc.
- Realize that you WILL be very busy. You won't necessarily get to just hang out on a Friday night or may be shuffling to/from different events in one day. Examples: going to a birthday party right after practice, going from a school practice straight to an allstar practice, etc. The sacrifice will be worth it though!

As long as you are responsible with your schedule, you should be fine.

If you want to do it, go for it! I did it freshman year and realized it wasn't really meant for me. as everybody said above, it's all about time management. I would have school practice from 4-6 and then allstar practice 30 minutes away at 6:30. I literally had to eat dinner in the car on the way there and was almost always late to allstar practice. My teams would then practice till 9, so I was exhausted from almost 5 hours of practice a day, but I guess it was worth it. the main thing I struggled with was keeping my grades up. It gets pretty hard! not even gonna lie. I normally have pretty good grades, and my grades started to slip with that much cheer.

From a mom's point of view, all the comments above are pratical and some things to take into consideration, but the first and most important place to start is to ask yourself why do both? You are pretty positive that you will make both teams, but why say yes to both? What are the benefits?
Some things to consider in your decision making.....Absolutely yes, you can do both and many do, but at what cost. What part does your education play in this decision?....lastly after you've answered all these questions here's something else to think about....
Your senior year....you can basically do anything you want, because hopefully by the beginning of the school year you are working on your college applications in which case most schools will make their decision based on your marks/grades through 11th grade....so my advice is to focus on school now and you have your senior year to play. So think about which one means the most to you now and try to choose one and then go crazy your senior year...JMO, but I hope you find this information helpful....

Go for it! I do it, and the only day that really takes a toll on me is, Thursdays. If you're really good at managing time, and you don't have a lot of school work, willing to risk not having a social life, school cheer doesn't practice that much, you should be fine.
Here is an example of how my week will most likely go once school starts
Monday-
School (7:05-10:38)
Work (3-10)
Tuesday-
School (7:05-10:38)
Work (12-5)
All-Star Cheer (6-9)
Wednesday-
School (7:05-9:55)
Work (11-6)
Thursday-
School (7:05-10:38)
School Cheer (2:30-4:30)
All-Star Cheer (6-9)
Friday-
School (7:05-10:38)
Football Game *Must be at game an hour before starting, home games we have a pregame dinner and most of our away games are more than 45 minutes away*
Saturday-
Possible Work
Sunday-
Possible Work

Like everyone says. It's all about managing time. Plenty of girls on both of my teams do both. If your school competes, it will add way more commitment and time. It's not for everyone to fit into their schedule. Fortunately, I got lucky and got accepted into my schools OJT/DCT program (work program) so I get out earlier and have time for homework, and going to work.

So just think about all your options and plan out a possible schedule of what your week will be like before you decide to go for both! It's a huge decision.
Good luck! :)

My mom has always said that to me! Finally, my senior year she let me do both!
But, yes! Great point and very true and needs to seriously be taken into consideration.

Does your high school team compete? In some states you are not allowed to compete on an all star team during the high school comp season, so you should look into that!

If you can, I say do both! They are like 2 different worlds! Good luck!
