I'm curious, especially with people on here from all over the country...how many gyms do their own choreography versus hiring an outside choreographer.

I've done both in house and outside... I actually think it's better in-house, as long as your coaches are qualified. Personally, if I were to be doing my own choreography, I would still hire someone to just do our dance. My dance choreography is ok, not great.
I like doing it all myself, because you can take the time with each piece, start it earlier, and really come up with things that best utilize your kids' abilities. (Not to mention, as you can guess by my screenname, my stunt sequences are original and unique- I will always try to come up with something that no one else will have!) Also, my style of choreo is to put everything out on paper. When you know exactly what you're dealing with, and when you inevitably have to make changes, it's much more strategic to be doing it yourself. Plus, I find that we end up changing most of our choreography by the end of the season anyway, right? I don't think I've ever kept 100% of what I've been given by outside choreographers- we even re-did our whole dance one year. Kind of a waste of money, imo.
we have an outside choreographer(s) do our whole routine, it's been like that for years, and i don't see it changing in the future! we do however change our choreography by the end of the season to make things more difficult or when something just doesn't look right (transitions)
This brings up another question for me... for those of you that do hire outside choreographers, do you use them for ALL your teams, or only certain ones?
