I've done it for over 10 years now. I'm mid 30's and it's never been a problem. You have different issues too. When I was younger, money for travel and competitions was harder to come by, but now it's time off of work because of my job. I make it work though cos I love it.

If you're doing shift work however, things get trickier since you'll probably have a shift during practice time. It depends on your job and you flexibility within it.

I would think it would be a mix of both. And there's no age cap. I'm not sure how old he is/was but Victor Rosario has competed three times at worlds (09, 11, 12) and he was around 40. There's several coaches that have competed on open teams that are older. I think there may have been a father/daughter combo on some team this past season at worlds also, I don't remember what team it was though. I don't know how some people do it though, I'm 22 (well I will be tomorrow :)) and I feel like I would fall apart if I tried to compete again.

happy birthday!

What gym are you cheering with? I'd really like to just go to an open gym or something where they have an IOC team so I can meet the people and hang out and talk about the commitment and see if it's something I could do.
Brandon! Right now we still have people just coming for the open workouts and aren't planning on doing the team so you're more than welcome to join :) Wednesday nights at 9!

My coach and teammate is 51! He is still able to throw his standing tuck and full! He's soooo awesome at what he does and his technique is perfect!

As for cheering, it is absolutely doable! It would be much easier to cheer on a ioc6 rather than a 5. 6 teams are more likely to have 1 practice a week and on Sundays. Mostly because everyone's older and had full time jobs, go to school, have kids, etc.

I take 20 credits (on average) a semester, cheer, coach, and work.

It can be done, cheer will just become the outlet of all outlets for you!

Kali and Kenny competed at worlds on an IO6 team (2013 with Stealth Phoenix, 2014 with Gym Tyme Chrome)... Kali just turned 30 and Kenny is around there age-wise.
