I was (until Thursday) an Assistant Cheer Coach at the local High School, I'm a 50 y/o man and the Head Coach is a woman (she's also my wife). I was asked by the Athletic Director to not come to practices anymore. The reason he gave was that the girls do not feel comfortable with me around, but I believe it was a couple of the mom's didn't think a man had a place in girls cheerleading. There was an incident a couple weeks ago where we were having a meeting after a game and one of the girls started changing with me in the room so I left. I didn't think it was a big deal because they all were wearing spankys and they would sometimes practice in just spankys. I have been around since August so I don't believe they didn't feel comfortable around me. No one ever approached me or my wife. No complaints until now. I should mention that it was an unofficial, unpaid position. I'm really bummed, I was enjoying it so much. I have coached girls softball for 5 years along with boys football so I'm not new to coaching. Thanks for letting me vent!!
