I am very suspect of this whole KONY thing....I even said with dripping sarcasm yesterday that it wouldn't surprise me if KONY were caught in sept or oct this ELECTION year....everyone research before you hit copy paste or DONATE...just sayin

Ive given homeless people well actually I doubt that they were homeless money before for funny signs, or just for being honest with what they wanted the money for haha.

I'm going to sound like such a mean spirited person with this, but DO NOT give homeless people money! My mother is the executive director of a homeless shelter, and the worst thing you can do is give people on the street money. People that are situationally homeless (lost a job, leaving a bad relationship, etc) go to shelters and the shelters can take your money and put it right back to those people. These people often receive training, classes, education, etc to help them get on their feet and become productive members of society. These are the people you should be helping.
Don't even ask how the underground societies of the homeless work, because it's awful. The money you give them usually does not stay in their pocket.
Sorry, personal rant. I can't help it! It's the one thing that gets right to my core, especially because people are doing it our of the kindness of their hearts and trying to help. :)

Yes really. Invisible Children is a questionable charity, and trying to incite military intervention in an unstable region like Uganda is crazy. It's great that this issue is getting out there, but that video is just ridiculous and could lead to some very serious problems.

For what it's worth, there are a lot of US charities that put much less of their donations towards actually charity/research/whatever.

Charity navigator says they put 80% of their funds to the service they exist to provide

EDIT: I feel like I should add (not at you lakerfanatic, I just can't edit my other post) that I haven't seen the video and haven't reposted it. I'm not much into armchair activism, just because you pressed share on the video doesn't mean that you're doing anything. But I thought it was worth mentioning the facts from a reliable source. They're not as efficient as similar charities, but they're not stealing everyone's money either.

The columns in page 7 match the numbers from Charity Navigator. Whether or not parts of rent and production costs should go under "Program Expenses" - aka the money that goes towards the intended purpose of the charity is debatable. But that's how it is, and since they've been audited, that' seems to be allowed.

Their CEO makes $90K, which is nothing for a CEO. Go look at what the CEO of Susan G Komen makes ($420K). Oddly enough, 2 of their filmmakers also make $90K, which does seem rather, cheap, but what do I know?

Actually look at Komen's Financial Statement, pg 7. They're including salaries and transportation and rent costs in their program costs as well.

I dont see what you are trying to do by posting all of these anti kony things. We already know that the LRA is no longer in Uganda, we know that the IC doesnt use all of the money for the actual cause. The whole reason that I made this thread was to bring awareness to what is going on in central africa. Kony isnt the only person that is slaughtering villages, the whole point is to end all of the pointless killing that is going on over there. People need to be smart and do their research and if they want to donate then they should see which charity they like best and decide which charity will make the best out of their money. So stop trying to take away from what people are trying to do, which is to save lives.

Not saying that you dont, but it certainly seems like youre trying to persuade people to not help out. If youre going to post anti IC stuff you should have posted a charity to which you think would be of greater assistance. You should of posted more information on ways to help instead of reasons why not to help.

Okay here comes a big one because I am about to pull my damn weave out and slap half of you in the face with it.
First of all, what good are you doing the world by saying "we should have known about this sooner"? NONE. SO shut up and be happy our eyes HAVE opened up to it. Yes, it would have been ideal for us to realize these problems sooner, but stop bashing people because they didn't.
Second of all, you don't want to donate to the cause? Don't. Simple as that.
Third of all, if you're going to dispute this whole thing, please use some new arguments. The video outright stated Kony has moved on from Uganda, we know that. Also, go check out 90% of the charities you think are doing so much good on this Earth and you'll be surprised at how normal it is to be spending 70% on the organization's expenses.
Fourth, stop with this whole conspiracy theory bull. Oh, you know what, I bet the world is going to end in December of this year too, and I bet every time we see a triangle in a Jay-Z or Rihanna music video, they're secretly controlling our minds and controlling the world. Put down the crack pipe and use your brain for once instead of believing every single little conspiracy you see on the internet.

Do your research, know your stuff, but don't only look for the bad, 'cause that's all you'll find. All of you sitting here complaining that IC is doing nothing, that the KONY movement is useless, well let me ask you what YOU are doing to help? If you don't want to donate your money to a cause that WILL do something, then don't, but don't sit and bash it when you're doing much less.
