Local area cheer teams that normally compete against one another on the mat gathered together to support the Race for a Cure participants at the Susan G. Komen Race for a Cure event in Wausau. Teams that participated this year included Cheer Alliance Elite, Wausau West High School cheer, and Gems Cheer.
Owner of Cheer Alliance Elite, Jodi Smith says that this is one of her favorite events of the season. “It is very well organized and our cheerleaders and families love coming to support such a great cause.” Cheer Alliance Elite has been part of the event for the past three years. “This year, we wanted it to be even bigger so we invited all of the local area high school and all star cheer teams to participate with us as well as their families,” says Jodi Smith, CA Elite owner. “Bringing the teams together to cheer for a good cause shows amazing sportsmanship and we really appreciate the effort of those teams that were able to attend.” The cheerleaders learned several cheers to support the runners, as well as showcased some of their stunting and tumbling. They lead the runners in warm up with the help of former Olympic runner, Suzy Favor Hamilton. They cheered on the Cancer Survivor parade as well as the runners towards the finish line and showed support during awards. Some of our athletes and families also showed their support by running or walking in the event. “At Cheer Alliance Elite, we teach our athletes the importance of helping out others in the community and good sportsmanship. This event does a fabulous job of creating community togetherness. In the future, we hope that we can get hundreds of cheerleaders to support the cause with us” says Jodi Smith, Cheer Alliance Elite owner.
