I have seen pictures of cheerleaders of all ages popping up on facebook & instigram of cheerleaders that are seriously ripped all over / crazy muscles. Some of them look like little body builders. Do you think they are lifting weights? How much time do you think they spend a week conditioning?
 
I know we just bought a set of 50lb dumbells for my son. He works on snatching them up to prep like a toss to hands and then presses to extension. He was at 40s but he's working 50s now ( which is a bit too much at the moment so he's doing one arm at a time using the other hand to steady his wrist until he can do them....and hence a 100lb flyer) by himself.

He did 3 sets of 3 on each arm today. Baby steps. But he started with 25s and has worked up to 50s so well take it :)

I am curious if the girl cheerleaders are lifting weights too. I am seeing girl cheerleaders who have bigger muscles than the guys. :) LOL
 
Well. I know I am required to lift weights. Then again, I'm a college cheerleader and I'm an Allstar cheerleader. If I Didn't I'd die.
 
I am a college cheerleader and we have workouts twice a week from 6am-7am. We basically do some of the machines for our legs. We lift 8-12 lb dumbbells and just do curls and presses. The flyers have to do the same things as the bases. The guys on our team have a different work out that is more of lifting weights.

well, my daughter doesn't. She just lifts people ;)

Yes! That is very true! But, I have noticed a trend of extra muscular cheerleaders. It looks like these girls are doing a lot of extra conditioning on top of regular cheer practice. I will see if I can fins a pick to post.

i have no idea if she lifts weights on her own time.. maybe John Butler ?

but i do know she is a dedicated kid that is in the gym every available second, constantly working new skills. those muscles are definitely a result of hard work.

My CP has ripped abs and does nothing extra.

Some Cp's must have really good genes. Between cheer and gymnastics my girls are at the gym 5 days a week. They have muscle tone & are in good shape, but aren't super muscular/ripped.
 
I know a lot of teams condition for the last half hour of practice. We used to have a special fitness program come in and work with us for the last hour of practice during summer. We also have a boot camp program that is free to all the girls on a team, and a lot of girls love that!

That is awesome! Can I ask what gym you are with?
