We all have that one person whether it is your coach, your boss, a community group or even a super hero that inspires us. My biggest inspiration, especially during competition season, is Special Athletes. They break barriers on disease, illness and limitations to participate in a mentally and physically challenging sport. Most families who have children on these teams have a difficult time financially supporting their kids when it comes to paying for uniforms and traveling for competition season. The cheerleaders at ACE Franklin came up with a wonderful way to help those families in need.
Happy Hooper, owner of ACE Cheer Company, conducts a Meet the Tribe Day each year. This is an opportunity for all teams from all locations within the ACE family to come together, meet and showcase their routines for the upcoming competition season. To help support the ACE Franklin’s Special Athletes team, all of the ACE Franklin Teams were each responsible for putting together a bag/basket to auction off at the event. All of the funds raised were to help cover the cost of the Special Athlete’s team uniforms. Team moms/reps began meeting in August to discuss ideas for each of the baskets. This ensured that there were a variety of themes, concepts, etc for each of the baskets.
Here are some of the ideas that were discussed:
Travel- Suitcase stuffed with travel goods: shampoo, brush, toothpaste, blanket, sleeping mask, etc.
Cheerleader- ACE backpack, Varsity apparel, cheer flip flops, ACE bow, competition bows, headbands, cheerleader room decoration
Tailgate- Cooler stuffed with a car charger grill; goodies to cookout with & 2 slingback chairs
Car Care kit: Over $250 in gas/fuel cards & car cleaning products
Holiday- All Christmas goodies: wrapping paper, Christmas countdown blocks, ribbons & more
Tennessee Titans- 2 Club Level seats to a Titans game, Titans apparel, football magazines & memorabilia
The team moms/reps then asked all of the athletes on their team to either bring an item related to their particular baskets theme or give money to help offset purchases made for filling the basket.
At Meet the Tribe, bids were taken throughout the afternoon with ending times varying per basket. In addition, there was also had a donation box for cash donations to be accepted. Overall, the ACE family raised $2015 for their Special Athletes. What a wonderful way to spend money and give back! America needs cheerleaders, especially those who are benefiting the growth of our industry!
