Just watched the Jtv video. They started at :35 and ended at 3:09, could be argued 3:10 maybe. That's 2 minutes and 34/35 seconds. I didn't realize they waited so long after the music to hit that pose....that is strange. Without the pose it's 2 minutes and 32 seconds.

Eta: does anyone have the official time rules on hand? I'd love to see the wording of the seconds part.

Yes they would have won without that deduction.

Common sense to me would be that at some point in competing another competition would have ruled it the same way NCA did. Since no one pointed it out to them I could see why they'd believe it wasn't an issue though, to be fair, it is solely on Courtney's shoulders for not getting clarification before hand.

Though to play DA for a second, if they all did that choreo'd pose and then rose up like robots and marched off the stage versus the standard running, jumping, hugging, dragging self off would it still be counted? Or would it legit be considered the way they stand up and exit?

I could see the argument going both ways and I do feel bad for the 36 SE athletes who legit could have won NCA for the very first time for their gym had their coach and owner done a little more checking before hand.

Why would someone be willing to put it all on the line ? All the time, hard work, and emotion invested by this team and to risk it all with a questionable move. Mistakes get made we are all human. But, the way I see it, this is all on the coach/owner. It's their job to ensure this kind of thing doesn't occur. The athletes did their job. Responsibity for them not taking home a win rests solely with the coach/owner and I'm sure that's a bitter pill to swallow. Just admit to making the mistake. It's like when we tell a kid, just say your sorry. Don't make it worse by making lame excuses. Or, by blaming someone else. The fact that previously they didn't receive a deduction doesn't make it any more legal. It just means they were fortunate. If there is gray area ask for clarification. There's too much at stake to do otherwise.

Interesting, I feel like most rules have a 2 second cushion. (Or maybe I made that up) Those rules clearly put them 4 seconds over. That's such a heartbreak for all involved.

If the judges wanted to get nitpicky, SE's routine broke 2 rules - the time thing and the music ending before the routine. Were they docked on the first rule or second? What was the official say on the deduction?

I am wondering if NCA is becoming a victim of it's own success. If I am correct if you have a team competing at NCA then you cannot be a judge at NCA. With that said if you look at the number of gyms both large and small at this years comp and take those possible judges out of the loop then what's left? I know of several teams with issues on scoring in two of the halls. One hall was scoring the same number in all categories across the grid so if you were an 8 in jumps you were an 8 in everything else which based on some of teams I saw clearly was not the case.

In addition I heard they grabbed some people that had never judged any event and had them on the stand. At an event of this notoriety these things should not happen! I'm not saying this as a bitter parent whose kid didn't win and think they got shafted but as someone who was a skeptic of All Star Cheer and now see's it for the insanely competitive sport it is at all levels. As they say "the devil is in the details" and if Varsity and USASF cannot get the details sorted out they will always be playing in the shadows of the sporting community and not be given the spotlight that these athletes rightfully deserve and have earned. It's not just about one team for me but rather all of theses teams and athletes.

Now let's get back to work and start saving (us parents) for NCA 2016! Congrats to those who won and for those who didn't, I'll be cheering for you next year.

Though I agree with most of what you say I would caution you about believing rumor and heresay. There's a lot of misinformation that gets disseminated out there. A lot of people have their own agendas and questionable motives.

There are TONS of teams who do a choreographed move after the music. Wasn't there that one team like 1 or 2 years ago who like sassy-ly walked off the mat? That's not an ending pose? I know rules are rules but teams have been doing this for a long time I feel like. Unfortunate it had to happen to SE at NCA, but I guess rules are rules...

ETA: Don't lots of teams do a choreographed move or chant before they set up? Isn't there a rule that the routine timer begins as soon as there is a choreographed move? Is that a deduction too or??

sad because all the posts i saw weren't even from the kids.. you're a parent, grow up, show some respect and model appropriate behavior for your child!

And I'm so glad I don't follow many cheer people on Twitter, I was curious so I did a little searching and jeez there are some nasty posts from athletes and adults, people need to get over themselves lol

There's definitely been worse, but I'm tired of seeing coaches/gym owners with snarky posts. I just feel like there's certain things that are better kept to yourself/better way to say things.

Wow....I've been outta the loop for a while (don't come on here as much anymore and hardly ever use Twitter), but when I see pics, videos, etc. on IG, I'll come up for a look (particularly for the videos). When I saw all of this tasteless garbage, I wasn't quite prepared. I mean, I barely even follow anyone on Twitter (and I mean barely-maybe ~100) and even I'm seeing the ones being mentioned on here....and then some! :eek:

If you're a parent, coach, gym owner, etc. who's ever complained about the misappropriated behavior on social media from kids and/or athletes (or even other parents, programs, etc.) you have officially lost your privileges to do so anymore!! Sadly I saw some really dirty/nasty remarks primarily from parents, but also from several coaches and athletes, that made my jaw drop. :( There were a few I wasn't in complete shock over, but several that I was. Some of whom who are regular posters on here. Now I'm no angel and I'll speak my mind regardless of others' opinions and it often comes off crass, but I don't run to social media to be passive aggressive about it. My first thought isn't OMG I HAVE TO POST THIS ON TWITTER BC EVERYONE NEEDS TO KNOW!! I agree w/someone else (in this thread I believe) who posted something about it being a bit ridiculous when coaches/industry professionals first thoughts are to post/upload stupid s*** (my words, lol- I'm paraphrasing here) online. Don't you have something else a bit more important to do? More importantly, how is that helping?!!

We wonder why children can't behave and keep their emotions on check regarding social media; well I don't think we really have to wonder WHY anymore. We wonder why parents would choose to represent their program/gym in that fashion; well I don't think we have to wonder the "WHY" behind that anymore either do we?! :confused:

The rules say that time starts with the first note of music, so that's probably why teams can do stuff beforehand.
I think you're allowed to do an ending pose as long as it doesn't cause you to go over the time limit.

No, those were years apart. I was actually just talking about that mix the other day. At worlds, Panthers were competing (in Finals) and Stars were standing next to me. Panthers had probably one of their worst performances ever, and when that part of the pyramid happened, all 36 Stars screamed the words as loud as they could.

A fan made it. I still listen to it occasionally. Makes me laugh

a vaguely remember them crashing and burning and I couldn't help but smile just a little.. I don't want to see anyone fall a part like that, but it was such a perfect moment of karma.

@xtremeteal4life -Maybe I'm one of those garbage-posting parents, maybe not. I freely posted my feelings about a 2nd place that shouldn't have been, and why I think it resulted the way it did. Not to be salty, not to throw shade, but hopefully to call attention to the marketing/politics of the sport. I take nothing away from the 1st place team - they performed well, 2 days in a row, and they did a fantastic job, but I believe they were outperformed.
I stand by my thoughts on it and there's nothing anyone can tell about the routines performed that will change my mind. I posted it yesterday and I would repeat it today.

Honestly I'm not sure since I'm not CPS and I tend to be very cautious. That being said, I wouldn't necessarily call them lucky to not have had this deduction prior---more than likely, the judges viewed it differently. Either way, routine to routine SE would have won and now CPS will have that on her shoulders forever...sadly.

And this is why I follow very few people on social media. I even cleaned out and unfollowed coaches and kids that I actually do KNOW personally several weeks ago so it's a crazy limited list now. It makes for post big-competition social media much less dramatic....although even in my limited view I saw people being salty last night about cp16 (and calling out his team) getting paid when they "finished 9th." It's whatever, some people just feel the need to be rude/ugly about everything. And I'm not saying I didn't have some response to them, I certainly did, but I didn't post it online :)

It's called restraint. Unfortunately most teenagers don't have a lot of it and social media is their outlet to vomit every thought they have upon the world.

The music stop deduction is a silly thing to focus on. Yeah, it's a technicality opposed to a real mistake, and its a shame no one told them about it yet, but I still think Panthers were amazing and deserved to win.

And a program like CEA should know the rules and have their act together - this isn't some rinky dink gym being coached by a newbie coach - they are multiple time world champions w/ multiple locations and more athletes w/ double fulls than my CP's gym has athletes. Did they expect NCA to just ignore the deduction and give them the jackets?
