Ok, what do all of you think about a local competitor gym's owner has private messaged one of our parents asking for them to quit our gym mid season and bring their daughter to their gym to be on one of their teams? Come to find out this gym owner tried to buy out our gym but our owner did not want to sell because this is her dream, so competitor told our gym owner that she would ruin our gym.

It's a shame you're not in Illinois, it would make this story more fun. However, it seems pretty par for the course. Good luck to your current gym owner and I hope the parent told the other owner to STFU.

Is this normal in Illinois?

Illinois is the only state to have a book written about the craziness that happens in their state. It's more of a running joke, but this stuff happens everywhere. It's best not to concern yourself with it, as a parent, there isn't anything you can do about it.

I read this in your other thread? Why two threads? Just curious
I didn't know I could post to regular forum, I thought I had to stay in newbies. Don't know how many people look in newbies. I'm having trouble with grown ups using children as little pawns in their games, so was looking for more feedback if this is normal for cheer gyms to do.

I don't think it is exclusive to cheer gyms.

Agree with @CheerBank. Children used as pawns is also pretty normal---not only does it happen in other sports, but just look at most divorce courts; even parents have no issues using their own flesh and blood as the pawn in a game.

I'm tempted to crack a joke about how all of the tea (on her life) was spelled... but most people don't realize that the book was full of typos so it might not be very effective.

I understand that. Growing up I played baseball and was recruited by many teams, but never mid-season. I just think that is pretty shady.

Well cheerleading is a unique sport that never really has an off season. If we're being honest, most of us will be in try-out hell...I mean Heaven of course, during or around Summit weekend. There really is no great time to recruit or attempt to recruit. Of course, I'm not justifying the actions of this owner since I think it's wrong to try and athlete steal---but I can definitely see how some justify it.

The kids around here try out in May, so personally that is when I would try to get other athletes to change their current situation, otherwise you are just messing with parents and children and keeping them from focusing on their current team.
