OT New Car

Haha I posted a thread about finding a car earlier, and I found the perfect one!! I have the 2013 Mazda 3 and I love it :) It's seats/steering wheel are adjustable, so I can see (I'm only 4'10") and it gets great gas mileage. Out of the cars you listed, I would say go with the Toyota. They are super reliable. My Aunt has had her Camry for almost 10 years and has had barely any problems. :)

@Just-a-Mom I drive an older (05) Focus and it still works great. I get about 27-29 MPG (lower than the newer ones but for an older car it's great). My brother has an 01 F150 that works great still (although he had to fix it up after he got stuck while mudding). My dad has 2012 F150 with synch and everything. It's so nice! I absolutely love love love my ex-boyfriend/now my best guy friend's 2011 Fiesta! It's tiny but it gets AMAZING milage. He's done some work on it as he just started college for his automotive engineering degree today (replaced the horn, put in new interior lights, and more) but it's still a fiesta. I learned how to park in in because I could actually reach the pedals :P

That's the car I'm looking at! I'll finally be a real adult in a year when I finally get a degree :oops: and I'm thinking of rewarding myself with a new car. Ford Escape is number one on my list right now. It has everything I'm looking for and a lot of extras. I really like all the cars they're coming out with right now. Whoever they've hired to design their stuff better be getting PAID.

***My only issue is that I don't want to park it in the city because you can't have a nice car here (everyone here parks by touch - lots of dents) I'd go bananas if I had an Escape and anyone dented it. So I'm trying to wait until I have a parking space or a driveway. :banghead:

My ridiculous Pathfinder was mine. :cloud9: Waaaaaay out of my price range. I thought I needed every bell and whistle they offered so I ended up with a very nice SUV and a $700/month payment :eek: - this was 10 years ago, so that would probably be about the same as saddling myself with a $900 payment now! Needless to say I kept it under 2 years and traded down to my Acura that I loved with all my heart and soul. Bought one more Acura and then sold that when I moved here to the big city.

Aaaannnnnd now I have no car and the Escape is calling my name. I would love love love an Explorer, but I just can't have a bigger SUV in the city:
1. I'd never be able to park anywhere
2. We have the highest gas in the country (yay us! Just in the city though - I could always drive to the suburbs and get gas :rolleyes: but I really can't even imagine filling up a huge SUV at $4.50/gallon!)
3. I only have one child at home now so I don't need anything big. Just big enough to load up the dress bag and the suitcase of wigs, glue, etc.

@fullinitup have you test driven the cars you're looking at yet?

***Side note: Here's a quick lesson for everyone: An ex-bf wrecked my first Acura (yes, he got drunk and wrecked my ACURA. Closest I ever came to murder). Cost me thousands of dollars in fines and damage as the owner of the car - and I was away on a cruise when it happened. So don't loan your cars to irresponsible people, no matter how cute they are!

So do most people buy cars on finance/hire purchase or something? I think everyone I know just buys used (or buys brand new and shells out £ks in one go), is this a British/American difference or am I just in a bubble? :p

I have a 2007 Toyota Prius and I LOVE it. I bought it used at 128000 miles, which is a lot..but they last for over 300,000 miles. Which is great! I put 5000 miles on my car in about a month and a half. (Oops!) but it gets super good mileage!

Although Hondas are GREAT, I have an Acura and yeah it's pretty nice but idk. It isn't great.

I have an 07 Versa that I have had since high school. It has been wonderful! Great gas mileage and it lasts forever. I have yet to have anything mechanical go wrong with it (knock on wood). I would definitely recommend it!

I have an '11 versa that I bought a year ago, I like it but I wish it was AWD from the winter weather here in NY!!

I love my little Honda Civic, it gets about 32 mpg on avg and cost about $32 to fill up. It is a 2006 with 112,000 miles and has only had regular maintenance done, no repairs. We purchased an Acadia for me to have something more comfortable to get the kids around and I still make the kids cram into the Civic.

I know it's probably out of your price range but I have a Lexus RX 300 and it is the PERFECT car for someone who is short, but doesn't want a little car, and doesn't want to drive in a tank. Im 5'2 and I can see just fine over the steering wheel. The one I have has Coach leather and all the wood trim, its about 6 years old and just now I reached almost 200,000 miles :( I know it'll last me much longer but I want a smaller car and I'm getting my grandma's 2004 Toyota Camry because, she's basically giving it to me and it might have about 20,000 miles or so on it, so why not. But I would really recommend Lexus', they're great, safe, and durable cars, I haven't had a problem with mine, but I also change my oil every 3 months or 3,000 miles like you should. I would say out of those you picked, I'd go with a Honda...they're super reliable, good gas milage, and will last you a while with little to no problems. Happy shopping :)

The first car I bought with my own money was a 1987 Honda Civic. It got 44mpg and lasted 240k miles. I miss that thing.

I've just bought (well 6 months go) an Honda Civic Si and I'm in love, like head over heels in love with it. It drives amazingly, handles fab, does excellent miles per gallon and is a low tax bracket. However, the UK and USA versions seem to be completely different from what I've seen, so I can't comment on yours :/

I am not an expert on our financing ways in the US, but if I had to guess I'd say most people buy cars on credit here. (Finance it through a bank) Of course if I had to guess I'd say most people buy EVERYTHING on credit here. People can and do pay cash for cars, but it's not usually a very nice car then - usually an older one. New cars are almost always bought on credit (almost always - I'm sure some people just have lives where they can buy with cash. I don't know those people but I'm sure they exist. I mean, people exist who can fly their kids to another state for cheer practice, I'm sure they can buy cars with cash. :eek: )
