OMG YES. I think it's worse down in the south where people expect you to get married and have kids young. My little sister is a Sophomore in high school and there's a girl in her grade that's married and pregnant. WHY? They both live with her parents. I can't imagine not even being 16 and being married. My mom didn't have me until she was 32 and had been in her profession for years. I can't even count on 2 hands the number of girls from my high school that have had kids/are engaged/are married. And I can count on 1 hand the amount that haven't broken up or divorced. I'm only 19. That's just crazy to me. I definitely don't mean to generalize that all young couples will end up like this, but why on earth would you do that? Only a few went to college, and most didn't even graduate high school. I think 1 (maybe) has her GED. What are they going to do?
My old boyfriend from high school will be 23 in February and just got married this past summer to a girl who just turned 18. He was 21 and she was 17 when they got engaged... He's from NY like me but she's from Alabama and apparently that's pretty normal to get married that young. I'm just thankful I dodged a bullet... If someone asked me to marry them right now, I think I would go hide somewhere.
On another note, I took that dialect quiz and I got Rochester, NY, Buffalo, NY, and Grand Rapids, Michigan. I'm from Rochester so no surprise there. What's funny is that now I live in Pittsburgh and get asked about my "accent" all the time. My boyfriend is from Pittsburgh and his family loves to hear me talk because they think it sounds so "cute." I'm like no people... YOU sound funny! There's certain words they say and I'm just like no that's not right... It's sneakers, not tennis shoes. We wash clothes, not warsh them. A buggy... Nope you mean shopping cart.
