Sorry for so many posts - I'm on my phone.

My daughter's middle name is siobhan! :) I wanted it to be her first name, but no one can ever pronounce it (as I'm sure you know) and I wanted to make life easier for her. I really wanted to go with Saoirse but her dad put the brakes on that real quick.

Yep. Nobody can pronounce it to save their souls. At my high school graduation I was called "Erin Si-ba-Han" despite me correcting the woman at graduation practice

And I long ago decided that if I ever have a daughter her middle name will be Saoirse to keep the tradition of a random Irish middle name....but I actually like it so much I'd probably use it as a first name, husband permitting (i suppose)

How do you pronounce it? Lol just want make sure I'm reading it right in my head and then if I run into someone with that name I won't mess it up. :)

I was wondering the same thing and found this (we're obviously not the only ones wondering :D) :

Yep. That's correct. But I say Siobhan a little differently but mainly because of my slight southern-ness

I feel like Siobhan is common enough, but I guess not! Her grandmother (my ex mil) STILL pronounces it "Sha-bon", despite the 12 years of us telling her. I still regret letting him say no to Saoirse. Foo on him - he's not even really around anymore, so it wouldn't have mattered! :D

Siobhan is pretty much "Sha-von" or "Shi-vonne" with the "i" being a short i sound. Both pronunciations would work. "Sie-oh-bon" or "See-oh-bon" don't. ;)

Saoirse is hard to describe. I guess the closest phonetic way I could think is "Seer-sha". @HeresAThought might be better at it with her librarian brain.

(sorry - my pronunciation guide skills aren't great lol)

I've seen people on TV named Siobhan..like the girl on American Idol but I've never met a real life Siobhan with the "correct spelling".

I've met like Sha'von, Shavaughn etc

Well, having a child in Irish dance we've met lots of them! When we lived in the south she wasn't thrilled with her middle name. Now she loves to tell people. But yeah, lots of people think it's Sha'von when I say it out loud.

I wanted to use Maebh or Niamh as middle names for my girls, but it just didn't work out that way.
My cousin's roommate from law school's name was spelled Chivonne. I much prefer your spelling. And I love that random tradition!

Got to use cheerleading as an example in my uni class today which was fun.
The discussion question was : "Do you know anyone that is famous for their looks instead of sporting ability?"
The discussion was going on and someone said "It doesn't happen in youth sports really, only professional" and was like "Wellllllllllll here's the thing...."

And now my class knows what an Instagram Cheerlebrity is. They seemed enlightened really.

Anybody else watch the Coven finale??
Ugh no :( I missed a show back in December (?) because of cheer and then never caught up so I stopped watching. Was the finale awesome? I can't wait until thy put this season up on Netflix.
