Literally one of my favorite books of all time. I can't even count how many times I've read it.
I just can't fully get into it. My mom loves the movie though. Maybe I'll try reading it again.
She said in an interview that she didn't think it would be right if it ended like they just saved the day and just walk of into the sunset. I would have preferred that she left us hanging, at least then I could read some awful fanfic about it.

Definitely would have rather had her leave us hanging!

All the movies have, of course, changed things or left things out. I enjoyed the book so much more. The first time I read it, I didn't always understand the phrasing. It was better the second time I read it.

I love classics! People just don't understand good literature sometimes.
I love classics too! I'm still trying to finish Anna Karenina..it's so long! But I really want to read Pride and Prejudice, some Dickens, and a few others along with rereading a bunch of books that I skimmed over in high school. In addition to a long list of books on my phone that I want to read, haha.

Has anybody read Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace or House of Leaves by Mark Danielewski? I've heard Infinite Jest is very good and am reading it now. House of Leaves looks good and I saw it at Barnes and Noble the other day and ended up buying it. Along with Miss Peregrine's home for Peculiar Children. And some more books on Kindle that I can't remember, but I think they were mostly classics/older ones so they were free/cheap. I have a problem, lol.

This. ^

And now my new thing is reading different "versions" of the story from various other time periods. Sometimes I love them almost as much, and sometimes I hate them - but keep reading anyway. I just bought "1932" and it's next up on my list to read.

Gone Girl was the worst book I ever read... until I read Sharp Objects. My neighbor told me it was so much better than Gone Girl - but now I see we clearly have different taste in books. I just do not get the hype with Gone Girl. The first 3/4 of it were pretty good. But then the last 1/4 was sooooooooooo bad that it just ruined it.

But back to the actual question, things to read. I love Kate Morton (all of her books), Harlan Coben (again, all of them), occasionally I'll go back and read an old Sidney Sheldon book (good for laying by the pool, read-in-a-day type reading), The Kitchen House, The Chaperone, The Paris Wife, and I just downloaded 12 Years a Slave (it's only 99 cents on Kindle right now!) but haven't read it yet.

If I could just read all day, every day, I would.

I like it, but I think with all the fantasy books I've been reading lately I'm bored by it. It's like I'm wait for a bunch of vampires or something to pop up.

So true! I read the Sookie Stackhouse books on my kindle, and I would get emails every day with Amazon recommendations. Being that I am a sucker for a book thats $1 and self published I started reading all of these Paranormal Fantasy books. My fiance looked at my kindle once and was just like "I don't know who you are anymore." lol The page he read through was about a demon a vampire and an elf. lol I love reading series of books so that way I can stay interested over a long span, if anyone is interested in some Paranormal Fantasy I can list a few. But from the looks of everyone recommendations I may be the odd one out. lol

Also love the whole Sue Grafton alphabet series. They are fantastic books! Just started Girl Gone, hope I can get into it.

Thanks to this thread I spent over an hour last night scouring amazon for new books (I already have 18 in my Kindle that I haven't read - now I have 5 more)

Now if only it would stop snowing so the pool could open and I could get back to my reading!

You have a long time for the pool honey.

Lolololololol I know! I'm counting the days though.

What's funny is that I was all upset because it's closed because they're rebuilding (it's already really nice, but now it's going to be ridiculously nice with amenities) so it's not opening until the 4th of July instead of in June. Now I'm wondering if it's going to stop $*@#ing snowing by the 4th of July!

Try Jodi Picoult! She wrote My Sisters Keeper, which was fantastic, and I don't even think that was her best one. Change of Heart, 19 Minutes and Handle with care are just a few of my favorites. But warning!: They will make you cry lol. A lot of the time they have to do with intense stuff like murder, rape, suicide, school shootings, disease, etc. and usually involve a court case. Definitely my favorite author. Plus she has a few lifetime movies which are always fun to watch after you've read the books!
I just finished The Storyteller by her. It's somewhat historical fiction; about this girl (and by girl I mean shes mid 20s) whose grandma survived the Holocaust, and she makes friends with this man who she finds out used to be a Nazi soldier. It's kind of like, how their stories all cross together. I really liked it. I've also read Lone Wolf (kinda wierd), House Rules (absolutely beautiful), and My Sisters Keeper. I have Between the Lines and plan to start it after I finish A Farewell to Arms. You're right though, her books are intense! (and just a warning, someone almost always dies).

Book talk makes me gag.

The next thing I'm going to read is In Touch Weekly when I get to work at noon.....at the library.

Then I'm going to watch basketball games allll day at work because I am 100% certain that I am going to win the Quicken Loans Billion Dollar Bracket challenge.

In a few short weeks I will be tossing up the deuces to librarian life for ever.

Working in a public library does this to you. Being a librarian at a public library does this to you.

"I know the splits... and I know what a back flip is... and I've heard you say basket but I'm not quite sure what baskets have to do with cheerleading and that's it"
My boyfriend on his knowledge of cheerleading.
I think my boyfriend secretly enjoys hearing about cheer stuff. He'll watch lower level teams on youtube with me to get ideas and I taught him how to spot backhandsprings (on my sister) and base one-mans. He's even been keeping up with the worlds teams with me this year (although we disagreed where IOC5 was concerned; he's absolutely sure 005 will win, but I'd kind of like to see the CA Wildcats take 1st). He can tell you what a bobble is, and the difference between a tuck and a layout. I guess its funny because he would have never known competitive cheer existed before he knew me! :D

I'm sure I'll have mine trained pretty soon. Between cheerleading and Beyoncé, I have a lot of educating to do!
