I realize that all restaurants are different, but do people recommend working at a chain or a local one? I'm looking to work weekends when I'm at school and do my work study job during the week. Is one or the other more accommodating?

it depends which aspects you find positive, i guess.

chains are good for a few reasons - if there is one by school and one in your hometown you could "transfer" when you're home for the summer. they *usually* also have a larger pool of employees, so if you need a shift covered or switched it's easier to find someone to switch with. the negative to more employees is more likely getting scheduled for less hours overall. but then there's times were you have to sell X number of the new crazy burger because corporate said so or there could be repercussions and other silly corporate rules you have to follow.

family/smaller restaurants are usually more lax, but at times don't always have their ish together (though really, that could be anywhere you work. but the "mom and pop" places i worked were usually less organized than the larger chains) i prefer smaller places for the atmosphere alone. i also found i was tipped more heavily in the smaller, "more intimate" places than the chain where you can get a 3 course meal for $19.99.

In the world of my sisters today:
-My 14 y/o sister was demanding we watch Pretty Little Liars (I can't stand that show) so I turned on Nick Cannon's show, Wild n Out, on MTV just to spite her :) Well, Nick Cannon comes on and I said, "I bet you don't even know who that is." Her response: "Eminem?"
-Then I was bringing 9 y/o sister to her grandmas and we were listening to the J. Geills Band (you have to teach them early to understand good music) and she turns around and asks me where Centerfold is... I told her California ;)

I work in a chain, at Texas Roadhouse, and i LOVE it! I've been there for about a year and a half. Generally chains are more busy and thats why I like working for one

6 separate shoots? That must be so expensive if the pricing is similar to how it is here. Like there's a policy that you have to buy at least $500 of prints/products or just fork over that much. Crazy! I'm taking a few in the studio, going to the football field for cheer ones, and then some in just a pretty, naturey area. They're mostly for my pic in the yearbook, a senior ad, and grad party invites, but other than that it's for my mom. She bought and displayed so many of my sister's pics.... Our living room looked like a shrine to her. My mom is super into it and thinks she knows all now that she's done it once. She knows all the stuff she wants to buy.
There's no wardrobe check, hair practice, makeup practice that goes on in my experience. We had one consultation with the photographer to discuss locations and ideas, but that's it until the actual shoot, and then after that we have the "reveal" aka ordering session. It's not super elaborate with themes and such... Just pick some cute outfits and go.

Do people from RB still make the trek out to Kansas to Antisdels? I live like an hour and a half from there and people thought I was crazy for going that far, but there were always a few RB kids there each year and it has to be at least three hours each way. They take the most incredible pictures though so it's definitely worth it. I'm so thankful I had the chance to have them done.

I have 23 years experience waiting tables/bartending/managing restaurants.

It depends on what you're looking for. Chains have more rules (yuck), more customers, and more bs. Working in chains I've averaged $100-200 per night - and earned every single red cent. Working in local restaurants, I've averaged $150-350 per night (and yes, that's average, as in on like a Tuesday night - I've made significantly more).

Locals eat in local restaurants. Tourists eat in chains. Locals tip more than tourists. Tourists eat out every day of the week, and are a rather steady stream of cash. Locals are less steady, but the overall average is higher.

Lastly, the money differs greatly by what style dining. At your age, you'll probably enjoy casual/bar & grill type dining - and make decent money. Fine dining is where the real money is, though.

Now, as for your actual question: chains are better able to accommodate schedule requests because they have larger staffs. A smaller, local restaurant may tell you it's fine - but then they'll need you another night and act like you're ridiculous for not being able to do.

*side note: before anyone says it, those numbers are from regular, suburban life in VA. Not Chicago - I don't wait tables in the city here, but I'm sure the servers here make even more.

*side, side note. I think I need to go back to waiting tables!

Not that I know of, this is the first I've heard of it!

I didn't get professional senior pictures done (like the go somewhere and have a photoshoot done) because I was *supposed* to get my braces off before the end of senior year so then I wouldn't have senior pictures with my braces on. I still have them so I never ended up getting them done! (my orthodontist is terrible) But I did retake my cap and gown picture for the yearbook 3 times. I ended up going with the first one I took but I was on yearbook staff so it wasn't a huge deal to change it!
Speaking of yearbook staff, I just got my yearbook and IM SO EXCITED!! It turned out so good and my spreads look even better on actual paper and not the computer! We spent so much time and effort putting it together. I'm really happy it turned out the way it did :)

My girls have been fed a steady diet of music from the 80s, 90s, and earlier. Now, thanks to Supernatural, they are listening to more classic rock with a spattering of odd tunes from Asia and Huey Lewis and the News!

One also has taken all of my Beatles collection of CDs.

I am so proud of them!

Just a little rant... Shout out to my school for the short notice on senior pictures (the ones for the yearbook in those fake gowns). They obviously didn't plan on telling anybody because we only found out 5 minutes ago because one of the parents went by the office today... Like hello, you can't tell us today that we need to schedule an appointment for next Monday or Wednesday. Some of us need our dreadful roots touched up & eyebrows done :endrant:

my senior pictures were with all the girls wearing a fake red dress/top. Definitely tradition for my school too

@njallday that trend is huge in the Charlotte area right now. Wardrobe check days, pre-hair and pre-makeup check days, stylists, multiple locations with "themes" (urban girl, country girl, day in Paris...). Yikes! Hope it dies down before my daughter is a senior as that year is already expensive enough.
are those photo shoot for the yearbook or just for the their personal use?

Senior pictures are huge where I'm from. I've already had one session and will have at least 2 more (was going to have a red white and blue themed one the week of 4th of July but it rained :( ) Our seniors' families pay for ads for them in the back of the yearbook. The photographer that does their pictures can design them, or they can turn in their senior pictures and baby pictures and the yearbook staff can do them. It's really nice, and we always do them for the kids we know that can't afford them.

Those are personal ones that usually end up in senior ads like she said. The actual senior picture though is a bit of a production as well but done in one studio with various "looks". Honestly I think it's insane and hope it dies out in two years!

wow when I did my senior pictures it was a one photo shoot and I could do what ever with it. My yearbook picture was red drape that all girls wore. You could have baby picture too. I think senior pictures (done on your own) could go in the ads part where parents can say congrats or letter to you.
