Watch Framing Britney Spears if you haven’t. I feel so awful for her. The media really tore her apart and then laughed at her when she broke. Interviewers asked her about her boobs when she was a minor. Some politician’s unbalanced wife said she’d shoot her if she had the chance because Britney was a “bad example.” Diane Sawyer spent an entire interview basically talking down to her. Justin Timberlake got on a radio show and talked about their sex life. Just disgusting all the way around.

And the media shamed her the whole time because she was a woman in her early twenties who 1) had a serious boyfriend, 2) dated around after they broke up, and 3) married a man and then had two kids. In short: for doing nothing wrong. It’s laughable when you consider the scandals nowadays that always seem to involve the n-word and sex assaults. She was an angel by today’s standards but back then you would’ve thought she killed puppies for fun.

So freaking gross.

ETA: Just imagine the fallout today if some perv interviewer asked a 17 y/o cheerleb (or any teen) about her boobs and if she’s a virgin. They’d lose their jobs. Hell, even if the questions had just come from some creeper fan account, it’d be reported and banned.

As a coach I don’t even know how you would evolve in that situation. I’ve always been pretty prescient about how my team will fare in competition for better or worse. Never been saddled with a huge surprise. So when you go into UCA just hoping to place and then it becomes clear that not only will you place but you might just win the whole freaking thing, what even is the thought process that comes next? Do you tell them and get them all amped? Or play it cool so you don’t overwhelm them?

I would’ve loved to watch the story evolve in real time. What an insane rush.

This just made so sad! I’m literally looking forward to the 2022 NHSCC more than anything.

I just turned 22 the other day, meaning I'm currently going through the whole "what do I want to do with my life" moment. I have an associates in early childhood education but don't really want to pursue teaching/childcare. I really do believe coaching cheer is something I am passionate about and if I can't make a lifetime career out of it, I definitely want to try it before its too late. I just don't know where to start. I have 14 years of cheer experience, but my options of where to coach are limited. I have 0 experience of coaching, besides occasionally helping out old coaches with younger teams. I just really think I should at least give it a shot!

Coaches/Owners: Would you take a chance on a 22 year old with no coaching experience? Would an email asking about any job opportunities be too forward?

ok so as someone who got a associates degree in something i ended up hating, i decided to try and take an alternate route to life, i dappled in a lot of dead end jobs and eventually ended up at trade school. Not saying that someone who learns a trade is gonna automatically struggle, cause there are a lot of successful trades out there, but you have to factor in a lot of other things.. the economy, money pay rates, where you live or move to, etc. etc. I spent almost 9 years on the absolute struggle bus trying to pave my way to some success. Looking back my biggest regret is not finishing that degree! maybe look into differing certificates to obtain, maybe pick up a minor is something completely different. A bachelors will help you in the very long run even if its trying to get a job in something completely different. And the probability of you getting to make more money in your lifetime is going to be more obtainable with a bachelors, then an associates.
i get there is a double sword to everything, cause some people with 4 year degrees are still struggling and say its not worth it. But as someone who doesnt have one, i WISH i had one. And saying you can go back and finish sounds easy enough, but its 10x harder to go back and restart.
again this is just my personal experience and reflecting back to all that i went through....

My first gym, the owner always said she could teach someone how to coach but not how to actually care about or be great with kids! I think you could definitely write a good email highlighting all your strengths in other areas and personal cheer experience.
