What is the criteria they are using to identify someone as a terrorist?

from what i could get from it from what i watched, is that they are trying to pass a law that "anyone who is investigated by the fbi or put on a terror watch list should not be allowed to buy any form of gun." Currently there are no laws preventing this. Along with background checks being part of the process of buying a weapon (there is none required by law currently)

republicans are basically claiming their amendment rights to being allow to own any form of weapon to protect themselves.

personally i back the democrats wanting to pass such a stringent law/bill, etc. Id feel safer knowing that a guy who wanted to be a part of isis isnt allowed to own an assualt rifle, or any psycho pedo out their wanting one either.


i could go on, cause i do have strong opinions about gun laws/rights. But to see a bunch of congress workers yelling, chanting and laying on the floor of congress on live TV, was pretty amusing to watch.

Any UK fierceboarders want to explain some politics to me? All I know about the remain/leave thing is from JK Rowling's tweets and I'm curious to know more. I saw that it's predicted that y'all will leave the EU. Educate a simple American on what the pros and cons are for each way?? It seems like a close vote and something people feel passionately about.

I'd be in favor, but we definitely need even stronger restrictions than that but it's a step in the right direction. We also need to tackle the elephant in room about domestic terrorism.

Yesterday (Thursday) we had a referendum to decide if the UK would leave the European Union. The experts and a lot of industry leaders in the UK backed the remain vote (like JK Rowling) and the Brexit vote (imho) was backed by bigots and racists like Nigel Farage. I work in the financial industry so my vote was naturally to remain because of the backing we get from the EU and because of the free trade routes, all the regulations and directives regarding working hours that they provide for us.
From my view the Brexit side used immigration as a scare tactic and didn't ever seem to say what might happen if we left with regards to economy etc.
I'm really sad about the result.

Republicans actually want to make it so that if someone on the watchlist went to buy a gun, there'd be a waiting period while it was further investigated. Then the Attorney General (I believe) would request that the person could not buy a gun if the FBI said there was reason to suspect them. A judge would decide the outcome.

There are a lot of people on the watchlist who have done nothing wrong. You don't have to be convicted of any crime, or even necessarily be suspected. A lot of people are on there in a guilt by association way, and they have no terroristic leanings.

I agree that terrorists should have guns - but we can't let one list determine if you're a terrorist. We are still America and we do have due process.

Trust me, even the gun owners and Republicans I know do not want terrorists to have guns.

I'm a huge Democrat, and I have to say I agree with Republicans on this one. If you haven't been convicted of a crime, your right to certain American freedoms (not just talking about guns here) shouldn't be taken away automatically with no due process at all.

I agree. There were 4 bills that were voted down on Monday - 2 were proposed by the republicans and 2 by the democrats. They voted each other's bills down. I'm with the republicans on this one too. There's a lot of issues with the no fly list. And one on hand, if we're going to have the stupid thing, then they shouldn't be allowed to buy guns, but on the other hand, having to go through a number of hoops to get one if you are on the list is probably a fairer way to do it for those who are on incorrectly on the list.

As much as I really, really dislike guns (and would not be the least bit upset if no one was allowed to have them), the 2nd amendment is a constitutional right and air travel is not.

Interesting. I tend to agree with JK's political opinions (she's a queen tbh) so I was feeling disappointed in what I saw on the news and only more so now that I've read on it and actually know what's going on to some extent.
But hey, at least America isn't the only country where crazy things (i.e. Donald Trump) are happening.
