I disagree, you can't really escape an earthquake. And I would be terrified.

But then again, animals can give you warning weeks ahead of time. I once read about a Californian man who predicts earthquakes by reading the newspaper every day and counting the number of missing pet notices. When the numbers start to peak, he leaves the area and an earthquake hits.
That sounds pretty ridiculous. California has not had many large earthquakes, and they're not all in the same place. Like I've felt 3 in my lifetime. And they all had different epicenters and different intensities. And our cats have done nothing with any of them.

my response to the "end of summer" tweets/instas/posts... it's the second day of the second half.

party is just getting started. :D

^^^^^Are you a teacher or school employee? I have been working in some way all summer with cheer, but my day job responsibilities commenced last week (scheduling/guidance.) Boo.

When I was still in elementary/middle/high school we were in school for over a month before summer was officially over.

School Teacher. I had 3 training over the Summer. My first official day back is Aug. 17th. We have a week of training. Then see my students on Aug. 24th.

I'm paying $65/mo for 25mbps internet from Comcast. RCN offers 110mbps for $40/mo. I called comcast and tried to get a deal and got totally shut down. He was just like "yeah there's nothing we can do for internet only packages." RCN and FIOS are both in my town, but for some reason neither is available at my address (in the frigging middle of town), so I'm totally stuck. It sucks. I hate comcast.

Especially the first month or two of classes because they all start visibly panicking and they're looking around and the rest of us that have lived here our whole lives are just hanging out and laughing haha. Fortunately most places around here have basements (apparently that is rare when you don't live in the Midwest, I learned that a while ago) so there isn't a huge reason to panic as long as the proper precautions are taken, but I do know a bunch of "storm chasers" [emoji19]

Basements are rare in Oklahoma too, because they're impractical with the type of dirt we have. There has been a big problem with shelters popping out of the ground lately because they weren't put in right!

We also have tests, every Saturday at noon.

My close friend was in Oklahoma earlier in the summer with her mom visiting relatives and there was a tornado. My friend took a video of her mom freaking out while their relatives are just laughing. It's pretty funny! Though I would probably freak out too... I'll take earthquakes over tornados any day.

We've got earthquakes too! Though nothing like California. And thankfully they don't usually reach where I'm at. I'll take tornados over earthquakes lol.

That's crazy about the basements. Everyone I know has one, I always assumed that it was standard with houses but that makes sense with the dirt situation!

yeah that one earthquake in 2012 in NJ was only like a 5.9? and i hated it. I felt like I was having a vertigo attack. y'all can keep your earthquakes.

I'm also from a small beach town in NJ. every summer/early fall we're told to evacuate for serious threats at least twice. We usually didn't. Sometimes that bit you in the butt, like floyd or maybe felix i get them confused and had to break through basement windows to get out of the house and sometimes we were the only people in town who retained electricity, like Irene when our house must have been the eye of the storm and anywhere surrounding us where we would have evacuated to was damaged. you wouldn't understand it unless you've lived it. my friends who stay behind to surf are stupid. my friends who stay behind to protect their livelihood are doing what they think is best.

I don't know how you florida people do it though. I probably couldn't handle anything beyond the short hurricane season in the northeast.

That's so weird that you can't get it at your address. My coworkers are always complaining how they wish they could switch off of Charter(?) but FIOS isn't available to them. I have FIOS (probably the only perk of living in this apartment complex...) and I pay $39 for 25mbps internet but that deal only lasts a year or so and then I go to a way higher rate. I don't even need 25mbps. My family gets 7mbps and all four of us used it just fine with all our devices (1 desktop computer, 4 laptops, 4 smart phones, a PS3, 2 streaming devices like Roku, a google stick thing, and then something else my dad has hooked up to the TV but I have no clue what does because when im home I only watch sponge bob). I wish they offered a 10mbps option because it's just my room mate and I using it and she's not even here half the time. I really don't need 25mbps.

I don't know what I'll do after this $39 deal is up. I could get internet and cable for almost the same amount as just Internet once this deal is up... But I don't want cable.

Side note: @Just-a-Mom Chicago's tornado siren is creepy af.

I know, it makes no sense. I'm in a facebook page for the town and everyone talks about FIOS and RCN, but all I can get at my house is like Verizon DSL, and that internet is way too slow. We don't really need 110mbps, but we do a ton of streaming and sometimes 25mbps doesn't quite cut it if my husband is on his computer playing video games at the same time. My townhouse is only 8 years old or so, so I wonder if the network was laid down before the building was built.

Before my call I agreed to do a survey (which I never do) so Comcast called me back and I gave 1s to everything. Hopefully the survey gets tied to the agent that couldn't even be bothered to pretend he was going to look for a deal for me.

/off topic/ Im permanently salty about the fact that jimmy johns doesn't deliver to my house. My neighborhood is off the same road that the store is on. We're like 8 minutes away. [emoji58][emoji58][emoji58]
At least as soon as I move in they'll deliver to me in the dorms... (I hope!)
