I am so easily distracted. School just started yesterday and for my statistics class we have to read the syllabus and explain the grading and makeup policy. Super easy. It's taking me like an hour to do this because I keep checking my phone and going on Facebook/Tumblr/FB/Everything else.

Anyone who knows anyone that has type 1 diabetes or is interested in what life is like for families when a child has type 1 diabetes should check out this newly released book:
Elle & Coach
The book is written by Elle's mother, Stefany Shaheen, and documents their journey from Elle's diagnosis with diabetes at age 8 to the present day (she's in high school now). It specifically is also about the process they went through to get Elle's dog, Coach, that they were able to get to help manage her diabetes. He's a service dog that was trained to detect and make Elle aware of her low and high blood sugar levels.
Elle is the granddaughter of New Hampshire senator, Jeanne Shaheen . My brother has been in many local productions of plays with Elle and I have a cousin near the same age who also has type 1 diabetes so it is very much interesting to me!
They have a Facebook page also called Elle and Coach if you want to check that out. They were just on Good Morning America yesterday promoting the book!
My mom bought the book today and I just started reading it and I have already learned more about life with diabetes in the 90 pages I've read than all the information I knew about it before beginning to read it.

That's great that someone is giving type 1 more publicity. It's so annoying to have it compared to type 2 allllll the time.

Girl don't get me started. I've had nurses and doctors try to give me advice that is only applicable to type 2 or info from the dark ages.
I'm liking all I've seen lately. This, the pocket in the uniform for an insulin pump, and I saw a little girl when CP was at the gym one day tumbling with an OmniPod!

A girl on tiny at my gym has an onnipod! Haven't seen her yet but people have talked about a thing on her arm haha so I know it's either omnipod or dexcom! Can't wait to meet her :)
I was in the hospital about two months ago really sick and almost DKA. I had one nurse ask why I had tested ketones when I said my ketones were moderate and I was throwing up excessively. And then I had another nurse say "oh you're t1, are you on insulin or pills" my mom and I were like [emoji15]

Getting one wisdom tooth removed in a few hours! Soooooo excited....
Yes, just one, because it's completely out and there is a cavity there... plus it is pushing on my cheek. It's going to be like a normal extraction since the tooth is out but... I am nervous anyway.

I had the same thing a year ago. It wasn't worth filling so the dentist just pulled it. Even though it's a normal extraction, still stay away from straws for about a month until fully healed so that you don't get dry socket which is very painful (dh had it). It also took a few weeks to feel completely better.

Is Dexcom the same idea as OmniPod? Something about it just makes me nervous. I'd rather have my tubing tripped out then pump ripped off, but idk a lot about OmniPod besides the basic idea anyway.
I was DKA back in December but was better with a few hours of fluids. I was just dehydrated but DKA requires a minimum amount of time in ICU. I kept hearing "You're the healthiest person with DKA we've seen in here!"

I had a few teeth pulled out when I was a kid, and it was no big deal. But it was a long time ago so I am nervous! :P And yes I am well aware of the no straw thing. I have a lot of soft food and liquid food supplement. My bf is supposed to get me some soft ice cream after the extraction too. :)

Warning, math class rant ahead...
Oh. My. God. So my Calculus 2 teacher has time management issues. He does not finish his lecture at any class then expects to do the homework with no problems, which he might collect the next day. So I stayed up late last night to do all the work and make sure I understand it, and in class this morning (at 7:30!!) a few other students and I were hoping he collected it for points since we all worked so hard on it. And then this little brown-noser in the back was like, "well it's random. He can collect it whenever!" Like no duh. Thanks for that obvious statement. And then we were just talking about how it sucks to have so much homework every night when a lot of us have jobs and Mr. brown-noser says "well you can just work ahead." Dude. Shut up. If we barely have time to do the homework, when are we going to have time to work ahead?? And we're paying this person to TEACH us. I'm not paying to teach myself from a giant text book, that's hard to do with math and then redo the homework because I messed up doing it without the lecture. If that was a plausible situation, we all would have taught ourselves and tested out of the class. So shut up you unemployed, no social life jerk.
And then this other guys seriously asks, in a calculus 2 class, if parentheses on a simple rational expression is necessary. And that sounds complicated but it was literally 1/(x+1). I try not to judge stupid questions but this guys asks so many... He was in my calculus 1 class last semester and I have no idea how he even passed the class.
I have not had enough sleep to deal with this. Ugh.

Dexcom is a continuous glucose monitor, it's not a pump. It's ahhhhhhmazing!!! I have a dexcom and its brought my a1c down a lot. It has a high and low alarm so if you go over a certain number or lower it will alarm. It's awesome.
The omnipod sucks. I tried it and hated it. I was allergic to the adhesive, it got ripped off at practice, also the pdm which is the meter remote for the pod is huge! I'd rather stick to my animas vibe with my dexcom :)
