I hate how some professors set students up to fail. I had a political science class that told us the first day his class was hard but as long as we took notes and showed up we would be fine..... Yeah..
The only grades he had for his class was two papers, a mid term and a final. Got two B's on the papers, and a C on the mid term, basically had a C all semester long.
However the final was brutal, he had to start three weeks in advance just to be able to review everything he was putting on it. And he didn't finish his review until two days before the final. The final was a nightmare, two pages in I knew I was going to fail. Ended up getting a low D and ended up with a high D for a final grade.
Oh yeah he also bragged about how half his classes every semester fail the class one day before we took the thing.
Like thanks for the boost of confidence bro, thanks a lot.....

My college chemistry class was like that. The grades were curved and I got a 54% on the final which bumped up to a C+. Clearly something isn't working if out of 800 students, the average is a 50% on the test -_-

After that I used ratemyprof.com religiously to choose my professors.
I use rate my professors alllll the time. But I didn't have much of a choice with this teacher. It was him or someone WORSE if that's even possible.

But in other news, it's flooding in Northern California. It's rained so much that roads are closed and classes are cancelled for nearly all the schools because no one can get there. There's been 4 inches of rain since 4pm yesterday. Like people are kayaking down the streets of my town.

Super proud of myself b/c I essentially used cognitive therapy on myself to figure out why I procrastinate, and I am slowly but surely stopping!

Tip: try not to hold an entire task in your head, if that makes sense. Just focus on small task at once, everything else will be finished in due time.

My European history professor just told us that if you have an A, you're exempt from the final!! I was nervous about not having time to study since it was my last final. This is the first time something like this has happened to me and it was such a surprise. Now I can go home a day early :) :cloud9:

Just read (from a possibly unreliable source) that the english department changed the grading scale so a 94 is a B[emoji37]. I didn't know this and we had tons of extra credit for our final... But I opted out because I already had an A :(((((( I hope it's not true!! I've never gotten something other than an A in an english class, so if this is true I will be so sad!

I would check your syllabus! Pretty sure they couldn't change it in the middle of a semester

...lolwhat

This is amazing, I've never heard of that happening. Wish my classes would do that.

94 as a B? Changed in the middle of the semester? Surely they can't do that, unless your class is so outrageously smart that everyone is acing everything.
Gosh, you would have to get nearly 100% to have a chance at an A under that scale...

I know!!

It was such a (happy) surprise when she announced it at the end of class. I was in my TA's office earlier this week panicking about it, so I'm so glad it's one less thing to worry about. :) Now just to focus on Organic!!

I'm jealous of the amount of money you DON'T have to pay to go to school. I'd take your grading system over our costs any day.

no idea about american universities but i gotta say at least in the UK you could definitly see where the money goes and what the students are paying all those fees for. We are lucky to even have a chair in a lot of lectures haha
But i'm not complaining i'm glad we can go to university for about 600 dollars a year

This might be a suggestion I make to my teachers.
...They'll most likely just laugh in my face, but it's worth a try.

Every time I go to MA I do something incredibly stupid moments before I leave because I'm not paying attention. Last time it was pouring liquid detergent into the clothes dryer. This time it's dropping my phone in the toilet. I've always prided myself on never doing that and this is the moment it decides it want's to go swimming. I can't help but just laugh at my life. I'm basically never coming home if this is a trend. :):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):)
