I was thinking about this today, does anyone ever step back to think about how unique and different our sport is from anyone else? For instance, our season is probably twice the length of a normal sport. Also we play a sport where appearance is so important ( uniforms, macup, hair etc) In sports like soccer, basketball, lacrosse it doesn't matter at all what you look like. Also we are constantly progressing and coming up with new skills ( did anyone imagine a ball up 360 tick tock 10 years ago? ) whereas most sports always remain the same. And as our sport keeps changing the industry is changing along with it, becoming unique, and modifying to accommodate the changes. Just thought this was interesting and wanted to see what some other people thought about it!

I agree. The amount of progress cheer has made in 10, heck even 5 years alone is phenomenal. I can't think of any other sport progressing this fast. The standards are raised every year, and the skills required to "hang" are replaces with the next thing. Standing backs were replaced by toe backs. Standing doubles today are more common than standing fulls ten years ago. Full ups replaced straight ups, now one and a half ups are replacing full ups and we are even starting to see double ups. 5 years ago a team would win worlds with a full up and tick tock. Now it's the bare minimum. I can't wait to see how far we go as a sport, it'll be crazy.

It is fun to see it progress. Now we need to start working toward getting this recognized as the true sport that it is. These kids deserve to be recognized for thier hard work and dedication they put in to this and yet we are still viewed as an extra curricular activity at best.:banghead:

I agree. What other sport can you have a forum board, families and friends on other teams, crazy rivalries and then it all goes out the window when it comes time to compete against eachother <3
