All-Star Pain In Both Knees- ??

My 17 yr old cp has had bad knee pain for almost two years now. She has had xrays and an MRI and a second opinion - bottom line, no clue why she is having the pain. One thought it might be a patellar tracking issue. The other thinks she might have microtears in the tendons. If this were not her last year, she would be taking off a year to see if that would make a difference. As it is, she wears braces and grits her teeth so she can have her last year. I am glad you are going to see a doc and I hope you get a "good" report - meaning something minor or easily treated. But I am going to make a suggestion I haven't seen. If the doc can't find an explanation, please consider a year off. Your cp is very young and has many years of cheer ahead of her. She can easily make up any backsliding her skills suffer. I am looking at this from the viewpoint of a mom who has watched her child hurt at practices to the point that I had to leave so I wouldn't lose it. I realize that would be a very difficult decision, but again, she has many years ahead of her. Good luck.

Any news on the knees?
They still hurt her some.. Not as bad as they did but then again she hasn't practiced in 2weeks they shouldn't be hurting her at all. I'm sure it will probably flare back up since she has practice the next 5 days! We are still suppose to have the appt on Tuesday!

Thanks for checking and I'll let you guys know!!

As I am going through some pretty bad knee pains myself I would say that she should definitely go to the doctor.
As for the knee braces, I would ask the doctor what they think
When I was diagnosed with mal-aligned kneecaps the doctor said I should wear knee braces and ice them every night.
I hope this helps.

I'll be thinking about you and sweet CP on Tues. I am sure everything will be okay.

Ok so I have came back to fill y'all in. My problem is I'm not sure you really care to know all this but I feel like I have to kind of explain it.. So I'm sorry before you begin to read!!

Like I had said in my original post her dad doesn't carry insurance like he is required to by state of Tennessee so this is getting messy. On Monday night I proceeded to call her dad and ask what time her appointment was. He told me he will come get her in the morning. I said no that's ok tell me time and I will meet you there because I want to go since my daughter is 6 she is not really good at explaining or giving details and he has not ever been there so I should go. He said no your not allowed to come I asked why and he told me "your daughter is a liar; if she can walk and bend her knee then there is nothing wrong with her and I'm not paying for them to tell me nothing is wrong."
Obviously we exchanged more words then that sentence above but you kind of get the point. He was not going to take her and he was going to lie to me. (I don't know why he thought Jaylen wasn't going to tell me)
Anyways, I cant take her because none of them have the bill me(bill him) later option and they all want hundreds of dollars up front. Some where between $500-$700 in which I have been quoted. So now I'm having to request a review so we go back to court then they will probably enforce it and give him 90 days and then put him in jail if not met because I also stopped getting child support. So he is violating 2 things that are court ordered I know you don't care to know that but that's kind of so you understand.

Now as far as my daughters knees yes they felt slightly better after the long break but the pain is already coming back full force. She is tumbling on them and pushing thru the pain but now like Tuesday when we got back from practice we ran in walmart and she literally could not walk and my friend had to pick her up and carry her like she was 1. He pretty much carried her all thru walmart because even when he set her down she could really do nothing but stand in a crouched bent knee position. Then she felt ok when she got up and last night was a short practice but she still complains of pain and has told me "my knees are going to hurt for the rest of my life because my dad thinks I'm a liar. " I feel so bad for her I mean she isn't dying and she can walk but to see her in pain I just feel like a bad mom. I mean it may be nothing or growing pains or just all the stress she puts on her knees the way she tumbles but I do want someone to tell me there is nothing wrong!!!! So I'm going to try to fight this battle here and hope her knees get better!

Thanks for all being so nice and trying to help and I do apologize I know y'all are concerned with my cp not our insurance problems but I couldn't just say we didn't take her and feel like you understand that this has nothing to do with me! So sorry for the long novel and I will keep y'all updated hopefully we know something sooner then later!

^^^^^ I am so sorry for what you are having to go through just to get your baby checked out, keep fighting and good luck. Someone very dear to me had to jump through hoops like you are doing because of an ex who cared a lot more about his banking account and causing her grief than he did about his kids getting taken of. Just don't understand...

Oh honey, I am so sorry you and Jaylen have to go through this. I really hope everything works out.

I'm so sorry! I don't know how things work in your state but a lot of places have low cost state run medical plans specifically for kids. If you can't get that I'd see if you can take her to a regular pediatrician. They aren't experts but see a lot and can help figure out if his is just growing pains or something worse.

I had commented a earlier bc my cp is having knee pain too. She saw a specialist who xrayed etc and said its growing pains. They referred her to a physical therapist but even the pt said there isn't much to be done except stretching the knee (remember that stretch we all used to do standing up with our knee bent and our foot pulled against our butt?) That's the advice she got after seeing a bunch of doctors. Do it for a couple of minutes 4 times a day.

I'm not saying that's what our cp has but I am saying that you shouldn't feel terrible. Your doing your best and sometimes, like with my cp, there isn't anything even he best doctors in the world can do. Growing pains go away with time. . .

You might want to look up "Osgood Schlatters". It occurs during over use and growth. It takes lots of rest, stretching, ice and heat therapy to et better. When my daughter had it she gets a little bump under her knee and it can get red and hot. The this with Osgood is if it is what she has then she HAD to rest when it hurts. It is not an injury that you can work through the pain. It only makes it worse.
