When I saw her facebook status I almost cried. I love her pics though she's the cutest. I hope I get to see her at Worlds imma be looking. :D

While I admire her spirit, I would strongly advise her to listen to her doctor's instructions. It's not worth potentially making the situation worse. She's an amazing cheerleader, and we all want her to come back as soon as she can, but it's just not worth making things worse.
she has a cast on though. its holding the bone in place.

Thank you all so much for the warm wishes. It has been a tough thing to have to deal with, but the most amazing thing is how she is handling it (better than me and her mother!! LOL). Of course, she is disappointed, but she is being so strong for her teammates and just wants for them to go on and do well. Her reaction and strength inspires even me!

She was practicing her new pass on Sunday... a punch front through to double. She landed everything ok, but as she was stepping out of the pass after the double, she simply stepped wrong and roller her ankle. We thought it was just a bad sprain, but x-rays confirmed yesterday that it is broken. She is in a cast until early May. It's been hard, because as a parent I just wish there was something I could do. She's worked so hard for Worlds. I'd take two broken arms and legs just to take it away from her, but this is just one of life's lessons.

Please come find her at Worlds and make sure you sign her cast! She will be there with her team to support them... decorated crutches and all. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all of you for your wonderful support. I know it will mean a lot to her when she comes home tonight from practice and reads all of your warm wishes. I was blown away when someone told me there was a thread about her injury. You guys are all amazing! Thank you again!

All our love,
The Butler Family
ok, after i find her and sign her cast i will need to get her autograph and get a pic with her too.

A cast doesn't mean you can put weight on it, or that it's a good idea. The treatment regimen and rules on weight bearing vary by the injury. Please see the following information:

http://orthoinfo.aaos.org/topic.cfm?topic=a00391

As per that website:

Weightbearing

Your specific fracture determines when you can start putting weight on your ankle. Your physician will allow you to start putting weight on your ankle when he or she feels your injury is stable enough to do so.
It is very important to not put weight on your ankle until your physician says you can. If you put weight on the injured ankle too early, the fracture fragments may move or your surgery may fail and you may have to start over.

Myst,
You are absolutely right! Believe me, after mom sent me the pictures I immediately called her and told her to tell Gabi no more. I tend to be the over cautious one when it comes to these kinds of things... LOL. Anyway, thank you for taking the time to post, I know you are looking out for her best interests and I agree completely that it's not worth the risk. It's hard keeping her still though... she's one of those type that has a really hard time just sitting and watching!

Thank you again for everyone's incredible support! It has been overwhelming and has really kept a smile on her face. Thank you thank you thank you!!!!!

No problem :D Being casted sucks. I'm 3 weeks in and going insane. I can relate to not wanting to stay still, it's infuriating and makes having the cast much more miserable. I'm looking forward to seeing her back on the mat next season!

My athletic career ended in large part because I didn't take that advice. I'm glad Gabi's dad is taking this very seriously.
