I have seen some gyms with portable stereo systems at competitions and was interested in finding out what brands are preferred and where do you purchase them from.... Any info is greatly appreciated.. Thanks

Totally agree with this. The Block Rocker is a built like a brick wall and does the job. As an added bonus, its size also qualifies it as carry on luggage. :)Go to ionaudio.com
A lot of us use the ion Block Rocker. It retails for $239, but I got it on sale $99 at Menards. Several retail stores sell them, you just have to look around for the deals.
Good luck.
That's what we have at Aviator. "Bella the Bose" is used on one of our full spring floors for practice, the other floor is set up with a stationary system with floor speakers and a mixing board. We bring Bella everywhere, we even use it for the Komen 5k in Charlotte for our tumble for tatas team to listen and party with while the group walks. They just pull it along on a little lightweight luggage/file crate dolly. When I was at CEA, they had a portable BOSE stereo system that was probably a foot and a half long and in a brown case that was super loud and great for comp warmups and practices
my new gym has a smaller, more portable ipod dock that runs on batteries.
so I guess it depends on what you're willing to spend
I love the portable Bose portable stero...it comes in a great case that looks great embroidered with team logos : )
