All-Star Practice And Breaks

The problem with tying breaks or getting water with rewards or punishment is that it does nothing to help improve things. It can actually be quite counter productive. The more exhausted you get, the more likely you are to mess up, and the more likely someone is to get hurt. Taking a quick break, getting some water, and regrouping is healthier for everyone involved (including the coach).

totally agree. quit often if a stunt falls over and over my coach will actually tell us to take a break, get some water and try again

wow i guess i didn't realize how great i have it at my gym.. basically my coach will say "grab a two second drink" (never actually like that) after everything.. so if we start with jumps, before going to partner stunt we get a drink. if we're working our partner stunts not all together after a while she'll say "hit 5, and then get a drink" as for during tumbling, we can get drinks whenever we want.. i had no idea gyms got monitered with the amount of water breaks they get..

I coach similar to this. I let them get a water break about every 20-30 minutes when we switch what we are working on. If they (or I) am getting frustrated with something and it seems like one of us needs a break to regroup, I'll definitely give them one but typically I try to avoid giving breaks in the middle of working on a section because with the youth team it takes a bit to get the reined back in and focused.

breaks are contingent on what we need to get accomplished, not based on time.

we get a drink after fullouts and i guess the "breaks" would be inbetween full outs when were cheering the other teams on in our gym before we go full out again. But we dont have "breaks" at practice, theres always something we can work on to get better in the routine
