agree...and if thats the case...you shouldn’t go there..but its their right to offer free whatever...no different than any store buy one get one....they are free to give away whatever...and if they badmouth other gyms...then you have the freedom to not go there...:)

My problem with this is that it's been my experience that the cost of the freebie is often passed on to the paying customers. If the gym eats the cost, that's one thing. When they expect me to pay even an extra dollar to fund the free athlete I take issue.

I think I see where you are going with this....like if Trantastic Allstars offer kids 5K, a clothing line and a reality show to come cheer with them this year, who's to say that next year Craptapulous Allstars won't offer the same kids 8K, a car and pay off their house to come cheer for them. I think it is taking this sport in a direction that is unchartered in our industry so far. Yes we've seen scholarships around to date (for males), but this opens up a new era, and I agree with you that I don't know if I like it. These are high school kids and younger (for the most part), and we are now starting to treat them like pros. I'm not sure I want to see the industry follow this path....
Thank you for seeing my viewpoint! That is exactly what I mean!

It's got to get passed onto someone, EPs still require competition fees even for scholar shipped athletes....someone is paying for it and I doubt it's the gym paying out of their bottom line.

I have a question, If an athlete is paid to cheer then does that cancel them out for cheer scholarships?

It can, but only if it is an NCAA scholarship, so until the NCAA takes on cheer as a sport then there is nothing to worry about. It would also sometimes depends on how much money is made. There was an athlete in I believe the 2010-2011 NCAA Basketball season that played for UK and was investigated and not allowed to play that season because they made too much money playing basketball before coming to UK. This was an athlete from another country that played for a league where they paid athletes. If an athlete is making a paycheck because of cheer, say from a reality show, and they wanted an NCAA scholarship then the possibility of them getting that scholarships is slim.
If they are just cheering for free then I don't think the NCAA would do too much, but it would depend on if they investigated it or not.

And that is my issue.

agree 100 percent...then you shouldn’t go to that gym...again...freedom you have but we have no right to tell gym owners how they should run their business...our best voice is to either patronize or not...:)

I'm not disagreeing with you at all, but the only problem is, the customer doesn't always know this is happening. Like, if there are people not payin at my gym, I know nothing about it. If it got out, it would just be "gossip" and not exactly something I would pay attention to or take seriously. I doubt all gyms advertise that the paying customers pay the way for a few that don't. And even some gyms that offer scholarships, do it from donations, not filtering the costs to the other athletes.

There is a new program and gym in east texas that recently opened up and started their first team. It just so happens that this program is in the SAME town as the small gym I came from and still continue to work at. This gym has texted, emailed and facebooked messaged every single one of the athletes at my small gym. One of the coaches also came to a competition and handed out flyers for their tryouts to all my small gym girls! They are INSANE. Also they just had tryouts and have 10 teams. They will be a large gym their FIRST year out. -_-

Trust me I understand... I drive two hours each way and for 2 years I drove a kid that was getting "assistence". I had no problem... He made our team better... I trust my gym and it's owners- I feel blessed to have the means to pay for my girls and don't need help... I am thankful my gym owner cares about kids who are less fortunate.... That's how I see it...I have found that worrying about me and mine only.... Most times makes me he happiest:)
