All-Star Senior Age And World’s Age Eligible Age

On the topic of rule changes, does anyone know why Small max number of athletes was changed to 22? Most comps have really big small divisions and then like a couple of teams in medium. (I’m talking about lower levels.) IMO it should be changed back to 20 or even 18 would be better.

Likely to also fall in line with the Worlds divisions where small is 22. It's easier to keep everything consistent. That's why they changed all 1-4 sizes to max out at medium instead of large a few years ago, since it was up to 30 athletes, which is the same number as medium 6.

1-4 have small and medium, 5 has small and large. 5 went more in line with the Worlds divisions when it was 5R and 5, and they just didn't change the sizes this year when they changed the numbers.

What is this rumor about the cut off age moving to January 1st?

I would like to know this too. My CP is currently 12 with a September birthday and on a senior 5 team this year, so the age grid very much effects her for next year. I actually don’t care if she has to be on a junior team next year but the not knowing drives me crazy!

I am in the exact same boat as you are. I was talking with a gym owner a couple of days ago and he said he thought the grid was coming out next week, but I am not holding my breath. :)

We have a different issue. If they move the cutoff to January 1st my athlete will turn 19 and won’t be able to fulfill her dream of chucking 12 year olds into the sky super senioring on Sabres.:p
It just means she will move to the NT International divisions but she really wanted that last year.

From the grid I saw it seems they did the opposite of what many thought, actually lowered ages in many brackets and enlarged number of years to be in each bracket. Do we know if this grid released is final or just a draft maybe for feedback?

I know most would be against adding more divisions but can Open 1-3 become a thing? They've existed as "unofficial" divisions in the UK for years now and it's crazy how much it has grown in popularity. Plus if you don't necessarily want to be on a worlds calibre NT team (or physically don't have the skill or coordination for it like myself) its a good alternative.

They exist in Canada. I've han seen Open 2.0, 3.0, and 4.0 or 4.2 mostly at comps, if they weren't Worlds level open teams

I missed the memo that she returned to all star!

She cheered on a Senior 3 her junior year and then took this season off because of Senior school stuff. She’s accepted that she hates tumbling but loves everything else so she’s okay being level 2 or NT.
The SS price and the fact she can pay at least her tuition herself helps.

Actually with how worlds is looking it would honestly make more sense to do away with large senior and large coed and rename the divisions so xs=small, small=medium, and medium=large since both LC and LAG are under 10 teams every season. Obviously those divisions are super popular so that won't happen but they're basically empty these days almost every gym (Even big gyms like CEA) struggle to field teams in those divisions. Is there any other division at any level with teams that big? 36 athletes is LAG and LC only right?

I’m sure not all gyms can field a large team but I always thought that part of decision was strategic. I know of a few programs that always have a lot alternates and could easily move to large but chose to stay in medium.

Correct, 1-4 cap at medium (up to 30). 5 and 6 have large.

That’s honestly great. I still don’t get why the US doesn’t do this!
