Yeah, I just can't figure out a reason for it unless it's to hide some inconsistencies in the needles. They turn to arabesque anyway so why not just make the extra quarter turn with the needle?

It's an interesting choice. The routine very conspicuously showcases one flyer's needle later in the routine, from a more traditional angle.Yeah, I just can't figure out a reason for it unless it's to hide some inconsistencies in the needles. Super impressed with Smoex this season. That routine is loaded with skill and just enough sass.
I also enjoyed panthers and lady lux. Lady lux has improved greatly, they were fun to watch.
SMOEX looked much better than Coed Elite which is...... awkward.
I don't enjoy discussing these kids specifically so I wont, but the flyers on SE don't have a flexibility issue. They all have gorgeous body positions and IMHO there is a more obvious reason for the feature than compensating for flexibility. That’s true, and I almost think they did that because nobody else is as flexible as her. Because in my experience, if you’re showcasing one girl’s skills, it’s because she’s the only one who can do them. Otherwise why wouldn’t you have everyone do it?
Which isn’t supposed to be a dig at the rest of the flyers for two reasons: 1. That particular flyer’s flexibility looks to be the kind that you’re born with (like hyperextended legs), and 2. Pulling your foot to your face is not a body position anyone has been training for anyway. So I’m not knocking them at all. I would not expect her level of flexibility from anyone as a matter of course. That’d be unfair.
That said, I just know (from HS experience, admittedly) that sometimes when you have a super talented flyer, it’s best to give her a solo bit to highlight her skills rather than prop her up against the other girls whose same skills aren’t quite there yet. That way her skills don’t go to waste, and you’re also not inadvertently undermining everyone else’s skills by comparison.
That’s just how HS cheer has taught me to read a routine, anyway. Could be a million reasons why they went this direction. But that’s my knee-jerk reaction when I see a single athlete being showcased.
