Hi everyone!

I coach cheering at a small private school that does not have a football team. We only have basketball cheerleading. I have heard of some schools having cheerleaders for soccer and have been thinking about establishing a squad to cheer on the school's soccer teams. However, I don't know much about cheering for soccer.

Does anyone have experience with cheering for this sport? I appreciate any info you can give me on it!

When would you do it, during the half? Otherwise I could not see it working. There's too much back and forth action during the actual game to cheer for a specific position (as opposed to offense or defense) and there aren't breaks after every play as in football.

St Louis University has cheerleaders for soccer. They cheer on the sidelines throughout the game. The back-and-forth in soccer really isn't that much different than basketball.

There are a bunch of semi-pro soccer teams with "cheerleaders." I get that it's a little different because they are closer to dance than cheer, but you may consider checking out a game to see how they adjust to the flow of the game, etc.

I cheered for soccer in middle school (we had basketball in the winter). There was an area on the sidelines in which we stood on the sidelines and did our sideline cheers, and then we would perform a dance on the field during halftime. It's not as ideal as cheering for football, but you can make it work.

Our JV team cheered for soccer in the past, this year our new coach is having us split the games between varsity and jv. JV has never had any specific soccer cheers and all I know is they said it was boring bc there's no crowd, and they don't do as many cheers as they do for football. They did always do halftime stuff (which we don't get to do for football bc Our marching band does their full field show at every single game and our dancers go too.)

We cheered for soccer in the fall. A lot of mascot and spirit cheers and chants. Not too many defense/offense stuff. We stood on the sidelines and did a halftime cheer with stunts. Totally do-able! There's probably 35-40 cheers/chants in my head if you need assistance. Good luck!

Thank you! We have some "Anytime" cheers/chants for basketball that would also work for soccer. I just need some that are specifically for soccer. :)

My daughter has been cheering at our community college for a soccer team. At first I thought "how odd." But they make it work. They even have a halftime dance they do. I'm not sure what the soccer fans/players think of it but the girls do a good job of timing the cheers right, etc.
