Hi!
This is my first thread (and my second post?).
I'm a gymnast (I don't cheer because there's no cheerleading in my country) but I use a lot of cheerleading tips on stretching. I've been stretching on and off my spike for 3 years now and I can't get it!

What stretches help you the most?
 
i'm not sure if you know who gabi butler is but she is VERY flexible & has helped many people get their spikes. she made these stretching videos so maybe they will work for you! good luck:)


 
Yes I've seen Gabi's videos and I tried all her stretches (btw, I've seen her FB page, it has lots of pictures of people she helped :D ).
But I have back problems (back pain in one side) and it seems to be slowing it all down...

Are you only stretching one side, or one side more than the other? Doing so can cause back problems which can cause back pain (Gabi Butlers little sister actually had this problem so her dad posted this thread Stretching: Learned Something Today I Wanted To Share... | Fierce Board - We Talk Cheerleading a while back which explains it more thoroughly). Maybe this is what's causing your back pain?
 
Yes, I only have one split, so I only stretch one side. I tought it could be that too. It's like a sharp pain, but only when I bend... I have to start stretching both!
 
If you use a doorway and put your leg up almost as if you were doing a split and then try to reach as far back/up as you can. That's what helped me get mine. Good luck!(:
