So, the general consensus for the Senior Open/Restricted 5 division's creation is to have a place for gyms that are new to level 5 to develop their skills.

My question is, why are so many gyms ignoring the opportunity of placing their teams in this division? For example, I just watched a video of a specific, unnamed gym that has a small senior level 5 team with five running fulls and a level 3 stunt sequence ending with a double down. This team is NOT going to Worlds. Every team has a starting place, I understand that. However, I cannot understand the coaches' reasonings behind putting this team in the normal level 5 division as opposed to open/restricted.

So my question is, what keeps coaches from placing their teams in a Senior Restricted 5 division where they might be more competitive? Is the Senior Restricted 5 division less appealing or less prestigious? IMO, it is not. What are your opinions?

IMO....I think the Worlds thing is just too attractive. I agree with you. I have a daughter on a Worlds team and I have a daughter who is too young for Worlds and almost has all her level 5 skills....SR OPEN 5 has been perfect for her.

I agree with the concept of senior open 5 for the purpose of either:

a.) giving kids too young to go to Worlds to change to compete on a level 5 team - where a junior or youth 5 isn't a possiblity.

b.) where you simply don't have the depth of skills to compete in a World's division.

I would suggest based on the S05 teams I've seen that a.) dominates that division. Rarely do I see open 5 teams without really young kids on them.

We used it for that exact purpose this year and have had great results with it. I do like a lot of the restrictions next year as well (those were the things that hung above our heads which I felt did not help the division having the ability to do). I do not like the random 4 boy spots... it is just odd.. UNLESS the boys are required to coed stunt (that is a helluva equalizer when you compete all girl and coed).

I like the division more that I have had the chance to coach in it this year.

WC has a slammin' sr open 5 without any youngings....

You know, now that I said that I'm probably going to have 50 people post about their senior open 5 teams that are all 12 and up and make me look like a fool. :)

I think the other thing in our area that might be in play is that there are few teams in our area that compete at the Worlds' level, so there isn't as big of a push to go small senior (or some other division) as there might be elsewhere.

Isn't that why it is called open?.....any age?.... Why is it bad to have young ones?.....this division is a great way for young talents to stay challenged...what matter the age if they are qualified?

I don't think she meant that is was a bad thing for younger kids, but on WC they do not have younger aged athletes as they have a youth 5 and a junior coed 5 for the younger kids to go. The same situation at my cp's gym we do not have any young athletes on our sr. open 5 because they are on the junior 5 team.

the problem with jr5 is that my little one doesnt quite have a full but has level 5 flying skills and 5 jumps to a back....so the sr open 5 allows her to work those skills with other kids like her:)

I really actually love the Sr 5 restricted division, Minus the 4 boys!!! We will be having one next season and I am super excited to be able to coach it!

IMO...I think it should only be used if you have so many youngings on the squad. Our SO5 has a ton of kids on the squad and still bring it on the floor. Scored the highest of the entire competition at GLCC Nationals in Detroit a few weekends back. Nice that these young kids can hang with teams competing at worlds :)
