I'm trying out for my local all star gym this May. I've never done all star cheer before although, I've been doing school cheer 2010-2014(elementary and middle school cheer) . I'm a flyer I've done half up, cradle, and a flip in the pyramid. I'm also being signed up for tumbling privates. Do you think that doing privates for about 3 months (might even do privates twice a week) I'll be able to achieve a back handspring? Also do you think because I've never done all star cheer before they would put me on level 1?

Privates are definitely helpful to get your tumbling! If you really commit I think it could be done in three months. I would make sure you get some drills at your privates too. I know when I did privates at one gym I just worked on back handsprings with a spot, but at another gym my coach had me doing jumpbacks and bridge kick overs as well to help. All the little drills help a lot in the big picture. As for the level, it will probably depend on more than just your tumbling. Coaches put teams together based on what the team needs. For example, I was a great base but I had no tumbling but was put on a Senior level 4 team. It all depends on what levels the gym decides to have that year too (assuming it's not a mega gym with almost every team possible!)

No one can really tell you how far you could progress without knowing your athletic ability, body type, drive, coordination... Is it impossible to get a BHS in 3 months? No. Is it the norm? No, but it's definitely not impossible. It really depends on where your skills and technique are at the moment. Take as many privates and classes as you can!

As for flying, that's something that totally depends on your gym, the makeup of your team and what level you end up on. It's a great idea to let your coaches know that you've flown before, but don't be discouraged if you aren't placed as a flyer. Your coaches will put you in the spot where you can help your team to excel.

not all gyms have level 1 teams. for example, when i started All star, i didn't have a bhs and was put on a level two team. you probably won't get your bhs in 3 months but its possible.

pittsburgh poison is comin through your area, causin mass hysteria!

First off, Look and see what level thee gym is offering… Then that will tell you what skills and passes you need to master. Priavate are a huge help! Participate in as many as possible. These next three months you should work your butt off… it will pay off in the long run. Just get into the gym as much as you can. If you put your mind to it, You CAN do it:)
