It was a miscommunication by the announcer and the registration table I guess. Elite Force told them the morning of they would not be accepting wild cards for any team. I was next to Diaz when they announced and he was not happy.
You could see it on the athletes faces from
That team. I had no clue what was going on but knew for sure they did not want that bid.

Anyone know if they have another bid competition? They truly were incredible. Hopefully they have another chance at a bid.

I would be surprised if they do - they've already traveled out of state a few times. I think they'll be at Sea to Sky though so they could at least earn one for next year?

I am confused...this team wanted to go to Summit, but turned down the WC bid? And now they have no bid (yet?) Or does the team just not want to attend the Summit?

I mean, I guess this is a cautionary tale...a bird in the hand being worth 2 in the bush and all. If they are truly incredible they would have had a good chance of winning the WC round (I don't even know what division this is.) And if a team is not truly incredible, yet they have an AL bid...they will be done after just competing one day just like the WC competitors who don't win. Actually, even though some teams are sneering at WC bids...looking at the competition in this round I am really excited to see it! There are going to be some amazing teams just killing it to win so they can compete Saturday...I think it is going to be fun to watch. ;)

I don't know about your division but Small J3 has 37 wild cards, and 27 paid or at large teams. You have to beat 36 teams day one to advance, day 2 you have to score better than 17 other teams, and day 3 need to beat 9 to win. There are going to be 36 teams in this division that are going to make Mickey very happy because they have to be there 4 days minimum.

What happened to Y4? I thought there was a team that was given a bid.

I "heard" that they passed on the bid. I think they are competing at the AS games this weekend, so maybe they didn't feel traveling to FL was economical. Pure unfounded wild speculation on my part. :)

Do you have an athlete competing in small J3? Just wondering, bc you keep bringing it up. ;)

If you get bumped from the value resorts do a dance of delight. They are literally the Motel 6 of Disney but at a Hilton price. I know they overflow into CBR (Caribbean Beach) and the one with the convention center attached.

YES. I've only been once, but my literal first words were, "this is the Disney Motel 6!!!"

Yes my Daughters team is competing in Small J3, they are a very motivated team, they had an unfortunate experience last year at Summit. Two team mates who double team had a collision 30 minutes before they were to perform. The team was forced to perform their routine minus two team mates one was sent to the hospital, with 2 substitutes, 10 minutes to rework the routine. They had to mark an opening stunt and put up a very basic pyramid, not their normal one, ended up with a zero deduction routine, and still beat 13 other teams. It was a very young team, 14 out of 15 girls are back. Our Gym has 3 other teams going at this time.

Alot of gyms in Washington are not accepting Wild Cards bids this year just due to the initial impression of what the Wild Card round is. But the more my gym has been thinking about it - it's just like the prelims round for the larger divisions at Worlds. I'm pretty sure my gym will be accepting Wild Card bids next year due to the increased amount of out of state teams coming to our AL and Paid Summit bid comps in the NW.

The whole purpose of the Summit was to make the competition something exclusive and special. Something similar to the Super Bowl of cheerleading. Varsity stuck to their guns for about 2 years. Last year there were 100 paid bids and 350 at large teams. At least in the Midwest you had to do something special, win and be a level champ to get a bid.

This year they almost doubled the amount on teams allowed to compete, 50 more at large teams and 214 wild cards. That just cheapens the event in my mind. There are NFL players that never play in a championship or Super bowl game in their entire career. Not everyone should make it to the Summit. I know that's a hard thing to hear but it's true. The reason they keep adding bids are gyms and parents just want to say they are going at any cost. There is already a talk of a small gym Summit next year.

I am sorry if you want to award Wild cards do them at 2 day tournaments to 2nd and 3rd place teams. Anybody can get lucky at a one day event and have the performance of a lifetime it's another thing to do it 2 days in a row. Put some stips to award them there need to be 10 teams competing to award a wild card 15 to award 2.

In a couple of more years Summit will be as big as Cheersport Atlanta or NCA and what will make that special to have 1200 teams competing?

When your child performs at the Summit they should be thinking in the back of their mind I need to stick this because I may never get back here!

I wholeheartedly agree with everything you eloquently prophesied about the Summit... In An event like The Summit, just the name states the TOP of a Mountain, which means only a few can reached the top. Just like Worlds, with all of these At Large bids, thank God, Worlds does not have Wild Cards bids too.

I definitely think that if Summit to work and be a viable competition it will need to streamline for practical purposes. If all levels from 1-5 are going to be awarded, maybe like other athletic events like baseball (World Series), Football (SuperBowl) and even the Olympics...Maybe split the country up into 4 to 6 areas (example: West, East South, Midwest, Southeast, Northwest, etc) and have teams compete in 2 days events and the top 3 teams from each division will be representative from their area of the country and advance to the Summit to battle for the top prize of being the best in their division and level at the Summit having Semi and Finals...The Summit will be streamlined and cut down on the bickering of crossovers, etc....If firm rules are put in place about only level 1s can cross to level 1s, just like NCA and no more than 5 crossovers total for a squad. The Summit can work and be fair to everyone JMO

Why should it matter to the AL and P bid teams if there is a WC round?? I don't understand how that "cheapens" the event. Only ONE team from each division moves on from the WC round. It doesn't add a bunch of weak, one-day-wonder teams to the event.*insert eye roll* It is a calculated risk (and expensive one) that these teams decided to take when accepting the bid. Frankly, as a parent, I kind of preferred winning this at our first competition so we could plan and fundraise for the trip. Most of the 2 day comps don't start until later in the season and I would hate to still be chasing a bid and wondering if we should be planning anything that weekend. For the record, our team has been very consistent this year, and has scored 1st or second at most comps. They understand the pressure of competing in the WC round...you don't hit, you are done. Again, just scratching my head about how the presence of our team, competing in what is essentially a "play-in" round, makes the Summit less of a competition. Does it just bother you that these teams are being able to BE there?
