Your CP is on a Worlds qualifying team that received an at large bid, but they have yet to hit their routine totally clean in a 2 day competition; meaning all stunts are doing the same skill sets, no one’s backing out of tumbling….etc. They definitely have the potential, but they just aren’t showing they can make it to day 2 more or less beyond the preliminary round of Worlds! Do you express to the coach and your CP that you feel it is seriously a waste of money to try and go to Worlds or do you go with the flow?:oops:

How do the other parents feel about it? And what is the goal of the gym? Many gyms are just happy to go to worlds, they know they won't do well or move past prelims. Is that something that you and the other parents are okay with?

It's actually not my gym! I was having a discussion with another parent that felt that her CPs team was not ready because they have not proven to be consistent! Most of the girls on the team have already been to Worlds, so it's not like it's there 1st time. I can't answer how the other parents feel at this time, but when some of them were discussing going to Worlds earlier in the season, they didn't feel like they were going to do well and they still are not showing to be consistent.

If I were in that situation, b/c my CP has already been to Worlds, I can't see myself okaying that! Now if the team was strong, but they just haven't gotten the scoring b/c of what I see are discrepancies in the scoring, that's something different! Worlds is not cheap!!! If she wanted to go as a spectator (and mine would want to go whether she was competing or not) and she can pair up w/someone I know is reliable, then i'll pay for her and stay home, lol.

Keep in mind that right now it's March. Most of these teams are going to train hard for the next 50 days to prepare for Worlds. Most of them aren't even going to compete heavily until that time. There are plenty of teams that pull it together in those last "down to it" weeks. I wouldn't give up the dream :)

That's very true! But I can still see her point! They may train hard, but they've been training since July, lol. In addition, arrangements have to be made ASAP to get to Florida. It's down to the wire right now. The team my CP was on last year didn't get thier paid bid til mid March and it was a headache trying to get the travel together.

For our gym, the primary goal is to make it to Finals (day 2) at worlds... We know we won't win 1st place against the teams in the division, so we set our standards lower you could say... But we get our bid at smaller competitions where competition isn't THAT hard, yet still challenging... So I'm not sure whether we just go to worlds just because its an honor to do so, or because the coach thinks we deserve it... But we still go every year...

I wish you luck :cheering: ! It's going to be really hard this year! They are only taking the top 10 teams from prelims, which will be held Friday. Then taking the top 10 teams from semi-finals on Sat, to compete in finals Sunday! That's a big change from last year when they took 1/2 from pre-lims in to Semi, then 1/2 of semi into finals!

wouldnt there only be 10 teams in semis??

Personally, I think it would still be a good experience but if you're worried about the team embarrassing themselves, then I wouldn't go. But I would still love to go to just experience it & see all my favorite teams :)

It always amazes me how many gyms are so desperate for that at large bid that they will travel anywhere at the end of the season to try to get it. The worst part is that they usually finish 10th or 11th to get it. Clearly they shouldn't be going. Shame on the owners of the gym for adding that rediculous expense to the parents. Cheer is expensive enough on its own, the parents don't deserve it. If you are one of those gyms, I hope you nail it. Good Luck!

If they got a bid I think they should go. This year for high school cheer we got a bid to nationals (and we deserved it), but going down there I'm pretty sure all of knew we would not make finals. We went down there with the goal of hitting our routine (which we accomplished) and moving on to semifinals (which we missed by .2 of a point). Although the team hasn't done well at 2 day competitions, maybe they should just have the goal of hitting a clean routine, and it would be a nice perk if they moved on. That way the still get the chance of competing at Worlds, and its a good way to get other people to notice the program (hopefully because they hit their routine so nicely:)). Plus this way the team members can go watch the best of the best and they will be motivated to try even harder(:
