This is maybe a question for parents rather than cheerleaders!

My team have just got new lycra/motion flex uniforms and I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on washing them. They are purple, silver and white and I'm concerned about the purple part dying the white material, I've not washed them yet so am nervous about trusting the instructions!

Does anyone have any tips on how to keep uniforms looking good as new? Also, what would you count as a normal amount of wear and tear?

Thanks! :)

From what I was told wash the uniform alone in a FULL tub of water do NOT use fabric softner and hang dry- Ive never had issues washing any of my kids uniforms this way. The fabric softner -i have no idea why your not supposed to use it I believe it has something to do with the logos on the unis. Good luck !

Full load, delicate setting on the washer but put only the uni in (or hand-wash the underarms and waistband.) Turn the uni inside-out. Hang dry. Never, ever put it in the dryer. Wash it after every third wear (or less if you can.) Do not use fabric softener, Clorox 2 or powdered laundry detergent. Use a mild liquid soap like Dreft (for babies.)

"Normal wear and tear" is totally relative to the material, how it's cared for, and the cheerleader's position - a flyer will have more wear on places that a base won't, and vice-versa.

We have been lucky over the years with 'sturdy' uniforms but last season my CP's team had skirts with those sparkly circles on the material and I can say those are tough to deal with. One trip in the dryer will strip them all off!

I treat her uniform delicately and hand wash then hang to dry. Not because I like spending my time this way, but because I personally don't own a single outfit that cost $350 and I have no plans to replace this one until she completely out grows it!!

Does anyone know what type of deodorant GK recommends? It says "non-crystal" or something but a brand would help a lot. I'll call them today if no on knows offhand.

@FamousRudags?

@FamousRudags?

I don't have any specific brands. GK highly recommend Fragrance Free, Organic Deodorants though. Ive always worn AXE deodorant as a boy, and never had any color bleed problems.

@FamousRudags

The tag on GK uniforms say to dry the uniform inside out on little to no heat. Would it be better to just lay flat or hang to dry?

Not speaking from GK - only thru my experiences... Ive done both.

Ive never let it sit in the dryer. Ill put it in the dryer, take it out for a few to cool down and toss it back in, but thats me being paranoid. I have air dried it before, but it had a mildew smell. YUCK!
