Can someone please explain this to me? As an allstar I have no clue about dance. When I ask my friends who are dancers if they go to the Dance Worlds they either say that it doesn't exist or that its at Disneyland but not in April. Is dance worlds for cheerleaders who also do dance? Or is it for actual dance teams who qualify? Im terribly confused

Dance worlds is only for allstar dance teams. Many allstar gyms also have dance in addition to cheer.

Dance Worlds is at the same time as Cheer Worlds, both at Disney World. Dance is in Epcot.

Dance has such broad competition formats that are VERY different from one another, so your friends probably compete at a different style of competition.
For example:
Youth Grand Prix (ballet): Miko Fogarty, 14, YAGP SF 2012 Youth Grand Prix Winner - Giselle - ジゼル - YouTube
Competitions that focus on lyrical/contemporary/jazz groups & solos (this is the type that the girls on Dance Moms compete at): www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5T04zbRJCM
Hip Hop focused competitions: www.youtube.com/watch?v=zX-j1pPsQIU
Dance Worlds: www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKc6wMOFemA

They are all spectacular in their own right, but about as close together as allstar cheerleading and rec cheerleading. (Totally worlds apart from each other!)......The Dance Worlds format is very similar to the format for college dance competitions, which happen to mainly be UDA & NDA, so they get influenced by the cheer world. Prior to college though, the majority of dancers will compete with a studio that focuses on lyrical/jazz/contemporary/acro,etc. in smaller groups & solos, rather than team pom.

The competition dance world is very diverse. Like others have said, the type of dance you do will effect the competitions you attend. The Dance Worlds reminds me of more high school/college pom or hip-hop. To me competition dance is a studio (separate from a cheer gym) that competes solo/duo/trios and groups in different styles. There are different competitions and conventions studios can attend (just like cheer), and they have many different national competitions, just like cheer haha. Maybe this is why your friends haven't heard of the Dance Worlds. They're competing in the solo and group type of competitions. :)
