The gym I'm in recently took out the competitive rec program so now all we have is recreational and competitive. I can see how that can benefit the gym financially but as an athlete I can say I found what the gym could offer was much better with the competitive rec program. It put less money stress on parents whose children wanted to travel to close competitions but can't afford competitive pricing/didn't have the time to be competitive. Also, many of our teams now have athletes who leave after a month or less of coming to practice (sometimes they even leave the week before competition), causing us to have to scramble to change the routine/fill spots, because they didn't want to waste time with the rec program but they weren't sure about whether they wanted to cheer.

Those are my reasons why I think competitive rec programs are better for gyms to have. I know some people think that competitive rec is a waste of time and that you need to be all in or out. What do you think? Do you have a competitive rec team?

Perhaps your gym no longer wanted to or were unable to fulfill the rec aspect of that division, that is, cheering for a sports team or club. If they never did that, then they were not legally competing in the rec cheer division.
Has there been any discussion in your gym about plans to offer a half-year team? That sounds more like the level of committment and pricing those parents are looking for.

I'm not really sure to be honest. Now that I'm on a competitive team my mom doesn't pay attention to what happens in the gym. She's never been interested in getting involved no matter how much I ask her too.

You're actually better off that your mom doesn't involve herself in aspects of the gym that don't pertain to you or your team. Good luck with your season, and sometimes the best advice is just to worry about yourself!
