I had surgery on both my ankle and shoulder. I had these surgeries as an adult, so I was past my tumbling days, but I think I would've been able to come back and tumble for a competitive team. It all depends on what they are doing to the joint. I was lucky with my shoulder that it wasn't my rotator cuff (they thought it was until my MRI). I would talk to your dr and see what type or recovery period they are thinking. PT would also play a role in how fast you'd be able to come back. Feel free to pm me if you have questions.

I have had It on my knee. After surgery I cheer for two more year- I graduated. I am not going to lie it was very painful at times, but if you take care of your self (rest, ice, compression elevate, wear a brase, Tylenol, ect) it ia well worth it. I am a level four tumbler and was able to get all my skills back. It still hurts today, about 4-5 years after having surgery.

Thanks y'all! I'm actually worried bout my little sister (I am assistant coaching for her JV team - which is gonna be combining with varsity for competition cheer in the Spring) because we found out today she has to have shoulder surgery. The labrum is torn away from the bone & even took a piece of bone with it. Doc says 6 weeks in sling, 6 weeks p/t, then easy-going back into stunting (she's a flyer).

I'm thinking if she's not working on her tumbling/stunting for months, she's gonna fall way behind - plus what if she's never able to get all that back? I'm a worrier if you can't tell
