Radio stations are on a totally different fee schedule. It's apples and oranges to compare TV and radio to something like a dance recital or cheer competition.

But still though - not many gyms can do their own mixes and music producers make thousands on each piece of cheer music they sell. We have no idea what the license costs would be. This isn't the same thing as playing a piece of music in your studio or a 2 minute cut of one song for a recital.

I'm aware of that, but it also doesn't mean that it's not gonna cost a lot of money to get licensing at competitions. I'm sure if it was as cheap as a few extra dollars on your admission, we wouldn't be going through this.

If you mix it yourself it is the same. We mix everything in house for our studio. It really isn't as hard as the music companies would have you believe.

Music for a dance routine is nothing like cheer music. Cheer music has evolved into a whole other beast.

The issue still stands, when that mix, with copyrighted music, gets played at a competition, there are costs involved. Costs that will eventually trickle down and come out of parents' pockets.

Our hip hop music is VERY similar to what we use for cheer. Only real difference as far as mixing goes is maybe using a couple more cuts and adding voice overs.

I'm wondering who on here would be able to shed some light on the actual costs of what we're talking about.

I watch a few videos from dance worlds on youtube and aside from a few transitional sound effects, the mixes for hip hop sound MUCH simpler than cheer music:

Most gyms don't have the capacity or ability to create their own mixes in house.

Those are completely different format than what we use. Most of our hip hop mixes have about 5-6 different songs over 3 minutes. Have you ever mixed music? The process is the same no matter how many songs you use. More songs make it more time consuming, but no more difficult.

Yes and creating a certain QUALITY of cheerleading music is a lot more difficult.

We will have to agree to disagree.

Feel free to prove me wrong. Show me where any old Joe has created music that is the same quality of the top mixers.
It may seem easy, to go into Garage Band and throw a few songs together over a back beat, add in a couple sound effects, and compete to it. But I assure you that creating the highest quality cheerleading music is not that simple.

I just want souls answers with solid solutions to all this. With the new season starting literally next month people are going to be looking into music costs and information. It seems there is still so much confusion on this.

Side note : That great whites mix felt 7 minutes long....

I don't even know if most music mixers have figured out what they'll do. Patrick and JR both already work with artists who do a lot of custom work for them, it's not much of a change for them. However when you look at the amount of other music mixers.. Idk. It's gonna be a change.
